Re: New to me 1972 K5

That is looking great! Maybe I missed it in the thread, but is the exhaust exiting on the passenger side B pillar area? Is that a hole there or ?? If so, that is awesome!

Yep... since I clocked the T-case up to the floor, I had to run 2 into 1 down the driver side, across to the passenger side where the floor kicks up behind the front seats and out the side because of the over sized fuel tank...

Do you have any pictures- have you run the exhaust yet? Please post them when you get to that point.

I am interested in how it works out, if I snag an Atlas, I will clock it up and possibly need to do a single exhaust also.

I had to dump my exhaust in front of the rear tires due to the fuel tank also.

Its not run yet, just planned out. The 2010 Camaro manifolds have 2.5" collectors. I'm building a Y pipe similar to a stock truck with the LSx platform, just no cats. Picked up a Flowmaster (p/n Y250300) Scavenger Series Y Collector that empties into a Borla 3" muffler. They make a 2.5 into 3.5 Y pipe too. I also want to run V band clamps.... I may also make a stainless or aluminum plate to rivet or bolt to the body to flank the hole. Not sure how it will mess with the white Line-X...

Rich, I just read through your complete build. What an awesome build! I can't wait to see your truck in person. Thanks for sharing the part numbers and pictures on the fuel system, since that is my next task.

Re: New to me 1972 K5

So there has been huge delay due to circumstances beyond human control. The shop was flooded, almost 3 feet of water, at least a foot of mud and lots of debris. The water ruined a bunch of equipment and insurace was no help...
**
First pic was inside the shop, still a few inches of water.
Second pic was in front of the shop, still lots of mud.
Third pic was all the part pushed around by the water. Thats my 35" MT under the 72 truck.
Last two are of the organic debris that was floating around...

The resto guy already had a new shop was alread in the works, on higher ground.... I think it was 40x60, but dont remember exactly.

You can see the Blazer in the corner of the last pic... The certificate of occupancy was granted the second week of Feb... so more progress starts soon!!!

Re: New to me 1972 K5

No damage to the truck. Inside the shop the water was "only" a foot high when outside had reached almost three feet. It's was sitting on 33's with a 4" lift, so everything was above water lever. The hood and fenders were outside, but already covered in Line-X, so no damage to them.

Re: New to me 1972 K5

So it is with frustration and sadness that I update this... the truck hasn't had any progress since the flood. The shop is almost an hour away so I couldn't just pop in to check up on progress...

The guy has had a series of life events and bad luck. New baby and house remodel started before the flood. Insurance didn't cover much of anything. The new shop kept having issues with the county for permit and building issues. Still no approved electric to the shop so he's running off extensioin cords from the house (~100ft) He's completely overwhelmed....

Rather than be the screaming customer I have decided to help him get back on track. Help him get existing jobs organized and get some simple jobs completed and out of the way. Need to track down parts for his 2 post lift. General organization for the shop.... I'm going up this weekend ... we'll see how everything goes...

Re: New to me 1972 K5

Sorry to hear about the delay. Life throws curve balls at you once in a while.
I need to ask you about the semi-gloss black you used. What brand, and what type is the paint. Urethane, epoxy, polyurethane?? I want to paint the frame and underside of my Blazer a semi-gloss black, but having difficulty finding a low gloss paint. I don't want to flatten an existing gloss black for fear of it going chalky a few months later.
Good luck with your build, and hopefully you'll get back on track soon.
