Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap

That will be an awesome looking truck. I wanted to do a Cummins swap in mine but I feel it will cost too much. Instead I think I'll do a supercharged version of my 454. Do you have a paint code for that white or is it custom?

Ok Eric, I'm really digging the mirrors that you put on this truck. What model year truck did you get them off of? As well did you upgrade the brakes or just use the stock stuff?

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap

Hey guys, apologies for the lack of quick responses to your questions.. Been very very busy... We just wrapped up harvest on Monday, then spent 2 days cleaning and moving equipment into storage, and THEN scurried to get 6000 ft of geo line in the ground as the frost was setting in..

Plus we"re going to nebraska tomorrow to look at a large lot of tornado damaged equipment to buy and now i'm building a house next summer..a new deadline to finish the truck. But i HAVE to finish it since i will need a truck to pick up supplies.
I'll try my hardest to post progress and answer questions for you guys. I appreciate all the positive comments they are very motivating.

I had some time yesterday to round up every single bolt that i have left and threw them all into a bucket with some industrial degreaser. Then cranked up the power washer to 210 degrees and boiled them for 10 minutes. After that i quickly dried them with a heat gun before rust set in and dumped black painted into the bucket, rolled it around for 10 more minutes and wa la, nice perdy bolts : )

Sometimes life happens, glad to see some progress.

That's a cool way to clean the nuts and bolts, I use the wire wheel on the bench grinder as I go, would have been much nicer to have a pile of clean factory hardware.

he cool!

what are you using the geolines for? heatpump?

I have sold geothermal heatpumps systems for close to 15 years now. We used to dril vertical holes about 150-300ft deep. I was cheaper to drill holes and takes less space...then to open up the earth and put them in horizontaly

Nice build. I am in the process of gathering parts for my 89 CCSRW 24 valve Cummins build. It won't be as nice as yours but your truck is definitely an inspiration to us all. Can't wait to see it finished.

That geo heat will be nice! That dude walking in the trench is nutty. Really hope either side doesn't decide to give in!

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap

Thanks guys! We'll be using a liquid to air exchanger for the geo, my uncle is the plumber so he's hooking us up. It was cheaper for us to dig the lines in since we have our own excavator, which i actually did a Yanmar engine swap to. I dug all the lines in myself and yea had to make some trenches much wider in the lighter soil to prevent cave ins. The wet clay held back pretty well.

Now I can fiiinally get back to the truck.. I just finished a little side project before the snow fell. 08 mxz 800 i bought wrecked, needed an entire new front end. Goin on my first snowmobile trip up to northern Wisconsin in January.

Some pics of the offbrand Dynamat. Installed 70 lbs worth in just the firewall and floor. I did 2 layers on the firewall to make sure no noise makes it through!

You'll need it them Cummins are noisy!!!!! But I love the power.

Awesome sled! I live in super-sled territory and have never owned one later than a 1974 440 Polaris. I'm a two-stroke junky too and can only imagine what a thrill that thing must be to rod on!

Close up of any of the bucket-paint hardware? I've got a pail full of crustyz and that technique looked like the ticket!

Hang on to those old sleds they're worth big money nowadays. Some of the bolts don't look great up close which is my fault because i didn't let them dry on a smooth surface. I tried a surface that they wouldn't want to stick to but that didn't work very well either. I wonder if i pre sprayed the surface with pam would have helped.. otherwise i'm happy with the results.

We got very lucky gettin the geo in the ground, went from above freezing that day to below zero that night a single digits the next day!

I took the sled out for a test drive and yea, it dam near pulls my arms out of their sockets! Fastest sled i've ever ridden was an Indy 500..

Curious how those mirrors are gonna get finished off. Those look great! Guessing you're going with a hybrid version of the wing window delete.
