Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build
Got one of my lca's reinforced today and hopefully I can start on my other one tomorrow afternoon. The original strip of metal was half inch plate but I used 1/4" for all the new boxing in and plating and whatnot. They aren't the prettiest lower control arms ever built, but but look pretty enough for me. they sure seem strong too. I painted them in bed coating. I wanted hammertone but I couldn't find any.

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build
on the back side it looks to be pieces of metal weld together are you gonna fill up the holes and stuff or just leave it? and for post # 55 picture 2? i think it has your cross member thingy as you called it looks like there's vertical up welds on the place where the bracket is that connects the link to the axle, were those fixed? or just left that way if they were left i really suggest fixing them not trying to bash you by any means and i know if it a vertical it isn't easy either

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build
On page 4 you can see that I switched out the crossmember thingy to that style. In the post #55 you are referring to, my welds were horrible. I've gotten a ton better.
On my last post where you noticed the holes on my lca's, that's from when after I welded and grinded the welds down. I probably won't be worrying about fixing them, unless someone on here thinks its a safety problem. Posted via Mobile Device

You want all the welds to be as absolutely perfect as you can get them.
That's one place ill never skimp. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build
If you've ever done a bend test you know that holes like those would split wide open and fail maybe I'm being to structurally critical but that's a part of the truck that absorbs basically everything and it doesn't help those are pieces of metal welded together in the middle so the first place they're gonna try and bend is the middle that seems to be not welded on the back side not only from vibration and shock but the weight of the truck but maybe I'm wrong I would fix it no reason not to its an easy fix as the cliche saying goes better safe than sorry

i like the angle iron idea...and easy to line up your bed bolts in case you want to take the bed off later if you need too....and strong enough to carry anything in your bed. lighter too

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build
Thank you sir!
Ok so I got a few things for my truck this weekend! I went to A&A in OKC and they had a 3 suburbans that I could pick from. I ended up getting : A chrome rear bumper (looks exactly like sport bumper) A suburban gas tank All fuel lines And the drivers steering linkage/arm thingy on mine had threads stripped so I got one of those too. I installed the bumper and it looks really good. It's covered in bumper stickers, but it's almost completely undented/ unscratched The suburban tank is where I run into an issue. I'm bagged with a step notch, so space is really limited. I plan to raise the bed floor so mounting the tank from the top of the bed for extra ground clearance would probably be my best option. I have never done such a swap, though I'm capable, I just don't know the procedure. Maybe somebody can give me some input as to how to go about this. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build
hey Maxxxy how big is the suburban tank? and the shape? post pics of the tank and from the look of your pics you have nothing behind the axle so if the tank is a square tank like the blazer tanks you should be able to mount it behind the axle and between the frame rails like other guys mount their fuel cells.... do some measuring and remember that if the tank hangs lower than the frame rails is ok because the rear part of the frame doesn't sit on the ground while the truck is laid out... and also check out mooseknuckles thread he installed a blazer tank on his...

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build
Luifer-
I believe mine is the mid sized tank, which I think holds 31 gal. I wish it was the smaller 25 gal, but I couldn't find one. The only problem with basing mine off of mooseknuckles, is he has a long bed, which equals more space behind the axle. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build
Oh I might be wrong on the long bed, but ill check on that.
The tank is almost a perfect square with rounded corners. It has like a 3/4 inch lip around the perimeter of the square tank. And I think from lip to lip, it's something close to 29" square Posted via Mobile Device

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build
I got a little work done this evening!!! It's been a while since I last was able to work on my truck, but thats because it's my senior year, and I'm coming down to the final part of my last basketball season. In fact, next weekend, Mar. 8-10 is the state tournament! Haha. My team is doing great this year and we're fortunate enough to still be playing while many others have already ended their season.
As much as I want to be able to have free time to spend working on my truck, I don't ever want my season to end. Well enough of that, on to the truck! This evening I did some modifications to be able to use a suburban gas tank above the frame rails on my bagged truck. I started out by temp. bracing the frame, then I took the rear support, turned it backwards then moved it 5 inches or so rearward. Then I removed the spare tire holder. Then I took a price of 1x1 square tubing and mounted it under the frame in the same location the spare tire holder was. (I am not finished securing it, so there will be more than just one tank strap) You can see in the last pic that the tank does not hang at all below the frame, which will really give me some peice of mind. Here in a couple of weeks I'll really be able to dive into this truck and get some progress. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: maxxy's 81 bagged c10 build
Well nothing new worth taking pictures about. Lol
Well my senior basketball season is finally over. We lost out in the 2nd round of the state tournament. :/ it's life though. My teammates and I still had a great season and I enjoyed every second of it. Though with basketball now over, I have way more free time, which equals truck time!! This week I have marked a few things off the list, getting me that much closer to my goal. •I installed new motor mounts •I fixed a cut brake line •I shortened my gas tank straps, built new bolts for that as well (old ones sheared off) and got the fuel tank in solid •I made the rear half of my raised frame (for raised bed floor) bolt in for easier access to my gas tank •I also had to raise the raised frame even more. It looks like my bed floor will be raised just about 7 inches Posted via Mobile Device
