Jebb, that would be cool, except your truck would get really wet at one of our races....we boat race . But you are welcome anytime you want to come and root us on.

JEBB Question: How is your rear axle mounted on your step-side. Flpped over the stock axles? With or without spacer blocks? What donor vehicle did the axle come from?

There are 2 leafs removed from my stock springs, the axle is flipped and there are 2 inch blocks.

from a page ago...i think...

i asked b/c mine is the same thing - stock springs, minus 2 leaves...and flipped axle....just no lowering blocks mine will have a little more rake to it and i think thats what im going for....and damn! his is low.

Yes, all of that and the rear end came out of a 1975 Camaro.

Re: Jebb's Project 1959 GMC

Hey there old buddy! I haven't been on much latley due to projects at the house and work picking up. I usually get in here at work more than any other time. I have begun tearing apart the motor for inspection, clean up and re-gasketing but nothing so exciting that it is picture worthy. Thanks for asking! Looks like you picked up a new rig!

Re: Jebb's Project 1959 GMC

Hey there Jebb.

Whew -- that Jimmy's low out back. My '56 looked like that when I got it. It had a 10 bolt Camaro rearend under it mounted above the stock leaves. The PO pulled the bump stops but left the frame un-notched. Ya couldn't drive down -any- road without a BANG-BANG-BANG-BANG-BANG!

I 'fixed' that problem.

Re: Jebb's Project 1959 GMC

Cal, yes on all accounts! I will post some pics of the motor whenever I get it ready to go. I did get some paint mixed up for it as I couldn't find anyone who made the correct shade for a vintage GMC. The wife has been really cool about everything.

Hey Norse, how are things? I plan to notch the rear also. The bed should be coming back off as soon as I get the Nova moved out of the way. I think I am finally going to get the cab off too!

Re: Jebb's Project 1959 GMC

Heh heh... I didn't notch it -- I completely dismantled it! (it's going back in the clouds with some factory 17.5" wheels)

The PO yanked leaves to drop the front. That got 'er down but the ride was a real mess: bumpsteer and undersprung.

Everything's good here, thanks. Gonna check out another '58 next week.

Keep us posted on yer progress.

Re: Jebb's Project 1959 GMC

Finally update pics! I am still here, just too busy at work to post latley. It is officially a frame off resto-custom now!

Here is the rusty GMC tailgate with the brand new blank for the logo transplant still boxed up behind it.

As soon as I finish cleaning up the frame, I begin preping drive train and brake system upgrades. I got the same kit Cali got from TCI. More to come soon.

Now your starting to do what I do. start a simple resto and end up down to the bones. By the way I found both radiator frame mounts if you still need some.

Re: Jebb's Project 1959 GMC

I am still here, it's the busy season at work and I have been working around the house. Check out my new lighting in "the shop"!

Okay, now lets get back to the real project.
Motor is mostly reassembeled and ready to be cleaned, painted and installed.

Re: Jebb's Project 1959 GMC

I took some time and cleaned up where the frames were welded together. It looked a little on the sloppy side and after looking at Cali's I found it embarassing. So I ground down all the added medal and welds. The surface was really uneven since they added extra metal for strength. After staring at it for a while I decided to add fiberglass prior to bondo to help me get an even surface. It looks like it was a good idea, although I am not completely finished yet.

Re: Jebb's Project 1959 GMC

First stages of bondo.

second skim coat.

Much better but not quite done yet. My sander croked on me tonight, that makes 2 grinders and 1 sander now!!!! Oh well I will be back at it on my next day off. I can't wait to get passed the frame so I can get the brakes together and get to mounting my Motor in here!

Getting there, what do ya think?
