Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
Next on the agenda install a stock looking seat cover for custom cab 66. I have an original that I can reverse engineer.

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
I removed the seat back today and pulled the seat cover off. The burlap mat behind the foam is done. Need to get some more. The springs are mint. Just going to touch up the paint and move on to installing the new cover

Ugh the upholstery guy sewed the insert in al crooked. Bummer what a waste of material. It fits good but I didn’t even get to finish it. I’m gonna start over

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
Attachment 1965875Attachment 1965868Tore the seat bottom apart and prepped it for the new cover. The springs are in good shape. Looks like one repaired spot on the left side. Seat foam is intact. I have a good picture of part number for seat foam. That’s for the deluxe seat foam. I do not know If it is any different than the standard seat foam. Not to bad I’ve never installed a seat cover before

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
So my radio has been sent to R&B Vintage radio for an AM/FM conversion you can see their work here:
https://www.randbvintageautoradio.com/video-demos.html I opted to get the works which consist of AM/FM, Aux, USB, Bluetooth, voice ID, and voice command. It will look completely stock and it will use the factory knobs and am dial. I made a little post about it a while back and one of our subscribers Boat installed one in his 63. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=681657

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
That's a nice looking seat (once they aligned the houndstooth).
I'm about ready to redo my seat and was wondering if you got that done locally to Austin / Cedar Park, or if you ordered it from somewhere. The rest of your truck progress looks great!

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
Seat looks good.
Did you ever finish your speedometer? Was wondering if you have it all figured out and the odometer reading correctly. How does it look?

Speedometer ended up on the back burner. Hope one day I will pick it up again. The only issue I had with it was calibration. To be continued one day.

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
So I imagined that you all have figured out that I was doing a cam swap because of the photo in my recent post. It is a Texas speed Stage 2 truck cam and it’s advertised with a duration of 212/218 @50 and .600 lift in both intake and exhaust. It’s a mild street cam that is compatible with the stock torque converter in my 4L60e transmission. By the time you read these next few posts it would have been running more for about 2 or 3 days. I’m sorting out the tune and dialing in that AFR

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
I lapped the valves and cleaned up the heads. I installed a Comp Cams rocker arm trunion upgrade, new valve seals and PAC 1219 valve springs good for .625 lift. New LS2 timing chain is stronger than the ones used on truck engines

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
New MLS head gaskets installed, new lifters, heads installed, new pushrods. Again it has been running since Monday so I went down for a wash. Back together looking good. Really looks as good as it did when I swapped it into my truck a few years ago

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
Been driving my C-10 around town a lot. There is a nuisance random misfire at idle that i have been trying to clear up.
I determined that it is coming from cylinder #5 and it is hit and miss. meaning the cylinder is not dead all the time. The misfire is usually only noticeable under hard throttle. I really haven't worked hard at solving the issue because i figured when i did the top end a valve seal or valve seat would be the fix. Once i completed the top end: New cam, New lifters, new push rods, new rocker arm trunions, new valve seals and springs, I figured I would take another look at the misfire. Referring back to my notes and this is where i'm at. Checked the PCM ground wires for C1 (blue) pins 1 and 40 and C2 (red) pins 1 and 40 to the chassis they have 0.02 ohms. With the computer plugged in I checked the following Coil plugs. Terminal A ignition 12vdc Terminal B trigger from PCM Terminal C Low circuit reference 12vdc with key on to terminal A Terminal D chassis ground. Checking all the coils on left bank with key on they all the pink wires (ignition power) have 12.48VDC Checking the grounds on the left bank coil pack (wire D) to chassis on and all coil plugs have .4 ohms. Checking voltage on the right bank coil packs terminal A to chassis ground with key on and they checked out at 12.44vdc Checked the grounds on terminal D on the right bank and across the board they were .4 Checked low signal reference Terminal C to terminal A both banks and I have 12.41-12.42 VDC. Also checked the low reference wire back to the PCM and it had .4 ohms resistance so that is good, also not shorted to ground. Checked the coil triggers from the PCM to coil for cylinder 5 and they were good @ .4ohms resistance and it was not shorted to ground. Checked the PCM trigger for the injector 5 and it was good .4 ohms resistance. Not shorted to ground. Again checked the ignition voltage at the coil and the injector with the key on. Now it was 12.6 because there was a fresh charge in the battery from running the engine. Swapped the injectors from #5 and #1 the misfire remained in cylinder 5. The misfire is intermittent or random. Swapped the coils between #5 and #1 and again the misfire did not follow the coil. Misfire is still intermittent or random. (completely dead cylinder) Surely it couldn't be this simple right so i swapped the spark plug wires between #5 and #1 still the same. All this is done with a brand new set of AC Delco Platinum plugs in it that I installed the day before. (just in case an insulator was cracked). Completed a compression check on the left bank 1,3,5,7 and all the cylinders are within 5 psi of each other 165-170 lbs which rules out a piston ring issue. I’m leaning toward a bad PCM at this point. Might as well check the vaccum at the intake to see if there is a bad intake valve leak. I doubt it because the compression is good. I went ahead and bought a used PCM that i found on facebook so that’ll be $70 all together plus shipping. To Be Continued.

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
Good luck. I have had random misfires on a few vehicles and have never gone to your level of effort. Most of them went away on their own after I cleared codes about 5 times. Please post up if you find an actual problem.

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
I had a random misfire on #3 and it turned out to be a bad connection in one off the pins in the plug for the #3 injector. While fixing it, I found a bad crimp on a pin in the #5 injector plug too.

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
When I would unplug injector #5 my AFR would lean out from 14.6 to 17. This indicates that the injector is functional. I’ve decided to pull the harness and modify the grounds. Hope it’s just a ground issue. I’m also going to run a dedicated ground for the PCM. Wish me luck

Re: 1966 C1434 SWB Custom Cab
Back in post #183 I had removed my original radio and sent it off for a conversion.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...&postcount=183 Richard over at R&B Vintage Auto Radio cleaned up my original chrome bezel and polished the lense. There was some black paint missing around the Chevrolet lettering (Logo). He refinished that and painted the needle. The radio has been converted to AM/FM stereo with 4 channels out for the front and rear corners. It has a subwoofer output for an amp and an amp turn on wire (blue on just about every aftermarket radio made). Radio have USB, Bluetooth, and Auxiliary input playback with voice ID and voice command. I opted not to get HD radio but that is available too. Volume, tuning and tone controls works just like factory. It even played some fm stations in stereo without an antenna because the signal strength is so good YouTube link of the test before it was mailed off: https://youtu.be/neOAq6ywFqI Hope to have it in my truck real soon. I’ll include a YouTube link so show it off later
