Well regrettfully, progress is going to slow as I have to do some work

I will be out of town on business for a few days each of the coming weeks and have a lot of family plans as well.

The next order of business for me is cleaning the rear, changing the fluid and gasket on that and painting it. The drums were almost new when I bought it and there's been about 10 miles put on it since then so I think they'll be fine as long as they haven't locked up too bad from sitting. Just going to clean them up and paint them with caliper paint.

Then I will be taking apart the front end, cleaning it, painting it, and putting it all back together with new components. That will include drop spindles, disc brakes, and bags

Sometime between all this we will be flipping the cab on its' back for me to clean up the underside. Then Jason will finalize the welding on the patch panels and cab supports and I will paint the underside with rust stop and then undercoating.

At that point the cab should be able to go back on the frame and we'll be starting final body work and paint!!!

I'm gonna miss all of the fall shows and cruise-ins, but should have it finished in a few months and be able to do the wiring and interior over the winter to have it ready for the spring!!! That's the plan at least...

Jonathan,

On the rear end...you might want to go ahead and change out the oil seals and axle bearings while you have the fluid and diff cover off....after 40+ years they'll leak on you once you get it back together and you'll wish you did it now!!! JMHO

Here you go...put together a small collage of the Z28 and my friend Tim's 49GMC...the truck that got me interested in old trucks...I will do an older GMC like this some day.....but SLAMMED

The pictures are so small because I was really bad at photography back then w/ a 35mm....I had the car or truck with a TON of blank space around it in the pictures...didn't frame my subject well at all

The car is like a dot on the 4X6 picture...

That's good advice....I've never attempted that but I'm always up for something new....

just stopped by to check out how it is going and WOW, that looks killa, you sure made some progress, looking great, and hopefully it will be on its wheels in no time!

I agree alos on the axle seal and wheel bearings, go through it, do the pinion seal also, it is just cheap insurance for all the hard work you are doin.

Got some more parts in today for the engine. It's gonna be purdy when it's done

Worked on tearing down the rest of the components off the engine to prep for paint. Gotta read up on the best ways to prep it since I'm putting BC/CC on it.

Worked on tearing apart the front suspension until I got a call and had to run to the house to meet a guy to sell some parts. It's good and bad...didn't get what I wanted to done, but traded for a van tilt and still ended up with 150 cash to go towards the truck. I'll be needing it too with all the front end stuff I need to replace. Idler arm has way too much play, Tie rods are of course shot, the adjustment sleeves look bag, U-bolts look good , but with what I've read recently I'm going to get newer/larger U-bolts for safety.

What do you guys think about the upper and lower control arms...do I need to change the cross shafts and/or the control arm bushings? THey seem tight and the expenses are really adding up right now...

Do the bushings, you have it apart and doing all else.
Or get some of those new Porterbuilt units.

You only live once.

You may want to check out POL for brand new control arms, by the time you clean and replace all the bushings, for a few bucks more you can have those. They also have some decent looking tubular stuff, inexpensive too. It's only money, you'll get more. j/k, I feel your $$$ pain.

Your stockers are all that's needed. But I think you should do the bushings while your in there.

The bigger u-bolts you mentioned earlier. Are you talking about the saddle bolts that hold the ca's on to the cross member? If so, you can get new 9/16 style which is the bigger u-bolts, get them from the HELP parts section at your local parts store. They even come with nice top lock type nuts. Cheap also.

It took me a while to figure out the base coat clear coat.

Who makes high temp bc/cc engine paint? I've never looked into it.

The BC/CC will be the same thing on the exterior. I have been told that you can run the standard stuff as long as you prep and prime the engine very well. It will most likely burn a little right by the headers but I have seen several jobs in person that have been run for a while and they look very good so I'm going to try it...

Kak...I don't remember what I paid, but I'm sure it wasn't that much.
You may have to order them, but even my po dunk parts store had one set, I had to order the other set.
They are real nice, and very heavy duty.
I forgot to do this, but when you get them, post a pic so that other folks can be aware that not everything has to come from a suspension supplier.
