Got the transmission tore down and cleaned out. Looked like new inside. Went ahead and replaced all the bearings and synchro rings and gaskets.. got it back together and mated up with the 205 again… painted up the bell housing and got that on too… next task is motor.. feels good to be putting stuff together hopefully for last time…

Fresh orange paint on the engine. Touched up the intake.. New to me valve covers from fellow member “Ironhorse”. Blasted and painted all the pulleys and such. Vintage air compressor mounted up. Modified brackets to more factory location… waiting on some small things yet. Belts, header gaskets, header wrap plugs and wires and motor should be about done up. Also got some nice SS power steering hoses to factory spec installed from a fellow board member as well. Then driveshafts, e brake intermediate cable and we got a rolling chassis waiting for the cab!

Also began the long process of stripping cab to bare metal… what a pain this is. Next time I’ll go ahead and media blast it to save me some time and labor

Re: 1972 Chevy Crew Cab “Denali”
Great work! Did you use a stock K engine cross member and a truck oil pan by chance?

Re: 1972 Chevy Crew Cab “Denali”
Good deal. I'm hoping I can make one fit as well. I hear others say that you have to cut the engine cross member and I'd rather not.

Haven’t posted any progress in awhile. So far I’ve gotten my driveshaft painted and put on. Had to reprint my crossover steering draglink and I also painted and installed my front drive shaft. Officially 4x4 now. Shocks and boots finally showed up after 5 months of back order. Was super excited to get them on. Also got the emergency brake intermediate cable mocked up just have to paint some hardware for that. Still waiting on 2 AN fittings to finish up the fuel line. Only thing left on engine is to tidy up plug wires and make a mounting stud up for power steering adjuster bracket and idler pully on AC belt.

Now onto more body work updates. So when i hung doors with rubbers in that made adjusting a real bear. So I learned that when gapping stuff when building the rubbers should be there. So after adjusting the doors the best I could I had to do some work on the door edges, some grinding down and adding wire to build up edges in other areas. Also on the rear drivers door the gap to cab back was almost touching. Back to the cutoff wheel and welder we go. Massaged that back to a suitable gap. And on the passenger side the gap was wide on some spot and the suburban door never did fit the best to the c10 back so more cutting hammering grinding and welding went in there to get gaps correct or at least the best I could. Definitely been a lot more work in the body work stage than I anticipated. I was hoping to have the cab painted by Christmas but I think I got about a month of body work left and then a couple weeks of paint time so I’m shooting for middle of February on the cab and doors… fingers crossed I wanted this truck done for a show at Carlisle fair grounds the first week of august 2022. Huge goal and that deadline will be here fast with so much to do!
