Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
Now onto the tear down of the passenger side rocker. I have repair panels for inner and outer rocker so the whole lot is coming out.
Outer ends where the new panels attach to is sound, so that's a bonus

That 1st pic shows how close the fuel tank is to the areas being repaired. Please take precautions to protect against sparks!

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
myself and Mark had a few hours on it last night and tonight. here is Mark, stripping the paint off the hood.
Whilst Mark was doing a nice job keeping himself clean I was hacking out the rusty old floor and got covered in rust, dust and grinding bits, don't you just love the smell and taste of ground metal! This was as much as needed to be cut out, not too bad and similar to the other side. First up outer rocker back on and secured with self tapers, door re hung to check gap at the bottom, in the end door was on and off about 3 times whilst I fine tweaked the clearance. Then drilled 6mm holes to plug weld rocker to door posts, then the welds will be ground down and when painted it will look like factory spot welds. Always good to turn the corner from removing metal to refitting metal :-) Started to weld in the rocker and my auto darkening welding mask started to pack up a flicker, so a touch of the arc eye now! arrgghh! Tomorrow should see floor completed and wing repaired and back on, pressing ahead as the windscreen man is coming wednesday to fit a new screen.

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
Saturday was another full day on the truck , but this time mob handed with 3 of us, Mark, Ben and myself.
Mark was in charge of paint striping, Ben set himself up on the grass and was in charge of the body shop, filling and sanding and I was on the welding and grinding. Inner and outer rocker installed and plug welded through top of rocker to inner rocker I fabricated repair panels for the cab floor, only tacked in here and still need to be seam welded. Windscreen man coming wednesday, so we took out the old screen, no rot found under the window seal, so a clean up with the wire brush, rust treatment and then paint. Hood was stripped to bare metal, filled and primed. passenger side wing refitted and grafted on the lower repair patch Cab top painted in off white, first mist coat, next coat I'll mask the edge between blue and white. It was a long and very productive day. I only came in when it went dark. we dont get too many nice days in UK, so make the most whilst the sun is shining

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
main event for today windscreen fitted with a nice green tint. Prior to fitting we painted the dash and windscreen surround. The screen was fitted by a UK american screen specialist. one man on his own and took 1 1/2 hours, which goiing by others comments on the 63 screen is very good going.
Then rain stopped play But not before the screen was in

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
Brake parts arrived today and I got new bearings for both front axles from a local supplier.
The original front cylinders where shot, with the alloy cylinders oxidizing and turning to dust Old bearings out and new in Each side stripped down to just backplate and then rebuilt certainly makes it easier to rebuild the brakes with the hub off. Next up the rear brakes to rebuild with new seal kit in the cylinders and new brake shoes. also need to rework the gear lever, the PO must have had it bent so its very close to driver.

Excellent progress Andy.
I suspect my truck will be getting new bearings as well while I am down there.

Quote:
http://www.brt-group.com Each bearing has a number on it LMxxxx, I'll post a photo later of the part numbers, they cost £6.00 reach plus VAT, so you need 4 off. 2 smaller front bearings and 2 larger rear bearings. So £12 per axle, compared to £57 per axle from a UK based USA parts supplier!!!

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
Part numbers for inner and outer front wheel bearings UK supplier, link above
rear brakes stripped and ready to clean and paint rear brakes rebuilt I was looking at the mechanism on the hand brake and wondering how the hell it worked? I compared it to the other side and realised it was missing a lever between the 2 shoes, Grrr! No chance of buying one over here quickly, so I made one from some flat bar I had. Then the end snapped off the brake cylinder pin :-( thank goodness for having a welder :-) Both rear brakes rebuilt tonight. So hopeful to bleed brakes tomorrow and have all brakes working.
