Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"
Thanks!
I worked on it last night and got the passenger mirror mounted, painted up a few seat parts and the glovebox door stop so that can go in, and then worked on the rear bumper. Got the bumper brackets mounted up (man, there are some tight spaces back there with the tank/fuel lines/hitch) and got the license plate mount and light on the bumper. Got the trailer wiring all wrapped in loom and cleaned up/tucked away nicely....then went to put the bumper on and NO GO The hitch will have to come off. The PO must have taken off/moved the plate to run the hitch. Because it will not work. So I will be taking the hitch off and sell that. Then get to take off the trailer wiring I spent time looking pretty Next owner can buy a hidden hitch or a different style if they choose. I'll get the pictures loaded up later today or this evening. Hope to make a lot of progress over the weekend!

Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"
Thanks. It's made by Valley. It's a nice hitch....just won't work with a sport bumper and the factory license plate mount. No big deal. I was never going to use it. I'll just sell it now with the wiring to someone running a custom bumper or roll pan.

Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"
VA72C10,
I have to tell you that is one great looking Blazer. I painted my first Truck (57 Chevy SHORTSTEP BIGWINDOW) almost that same color. I just looked through most of your thread and the picture from far off when the truck was in the Garage sideways got me thinking at first and then laughing once I figured out that the truck was setting on dollies. I couldn't figure out how in the heck you got that thing in there sideways. Anyway that is one nice blazer and look forward to seeing the finished product. JRBECK64 |

Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"
Well, can't sleep so an update from Thursday night's work....
Part of Today's (saturday) plans are to clean up the wiring (again-it was nice till I cut the zip ties to find a key off drain we fixed) and then install the tach dash and glovebox door. Here's the wiring before.... Painted the glovebox catch and some seat parts... Got the passenger side mirror installed And untaped the vin plate

Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"
Put the license plate bracket onto the rear chrome sport bumper. Note here: when looking at the bumpers try to look for one with this tag indicating triple nickel plating as the chrome is much nicer....
Bumper brackets ready to go on Brackets going on not much room to get your hand in there....and the other side is worse...used a magnet on the passenger side to get the washer and nut started...

the inners and hood still need some work. Might actually have to take the hood and passenger fender off to get them to work...will hopefully have Jason's help one night this week to get them fixed up. Today picked up the seats and the upholstry guy came over and measured for the custom door and rear side panels. I got the door latches adjusted since we adjusted the doors (actually removed shims) and gathered some more parts. Will post up progress pictures tomorrow.

Was supposed to go over and work on aligning the front end tonight but my mother in law was having chest pains and high blood pressure so I watched the girls and my wife went with her to the hospital.. So here are the progress pictures from Saturday. Got the trailer hitch off. I like the rear better without it Got the rear bumper on with the help of my brother in law... Then put the light buckets in with new brass screws And put new gaskets, bulbs, and lenses on And the rear looks complete (minus the bulb holder hanging out where the marker light should be)!

Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"
When I took the hood hinges off to adjust the fenders I went ahead and touched up the bolts...
Forgot to take pics with the fender off but here's during deconstruction Then wanted to put something on instead of taking parts off so I put the glovebox door on.... Got the driver's door lined up nicely.... And got the inner fenders on.... and left it here...hood and passenger fender still need some work and inners need work for all the bolt holes to line up

Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"
Great progress! Man, I love that rear bumper! It looks perfect! +1 without the hitch.
I'm sure the new owner will want to tow their boat with this so, they can have a new one installed. |
