Re: "Will it Ever Get Done?"

Well yard is all caught up, eye is mostly healed, no soccer today, so it is TRUCK TIME baby!!!

Before I had acquired some slivers in my eye, I had finished welding the piece for my fuel filler cover and I had also patched the passenger inner fender. Maybe I'll replace it some day, but the funds need to be used for something else. I finished stripping the inner fender, then sealed the underside with spray in bed liner. I also painted the engine side of it gloss black Rustolium. It'll match the driver's side now (minus the 4 years of dust).

Re: "Will it Ever Get Done?"

I sealed the fuel filler with some rust converter. I then cleaned it up on the underside and sealed it with spray in bed liner. I still have to do some filler work on the viewable side, but I'll wait till I have it tacked/bolted into place so it won't warp the filler.

Re: "Will it Ever Get Done?"

Between drying of pieces, I worked on my drivers front fender. I can't remember when I put this coat of filler on it, but it's been 6-8 months I think. I got it pretty close, but I think I'll need another skimming before I am ready to prime and block the whole truck.

Oh the last thing before cleanup, was to mount the grill from my 69 parts truck on the wall. A little to banged up for yuse, but a great wall hanging, like the 69's original tailgate.

Re: "Will it Ever Get Done?"

Little more got done today. I had filled the ridges of the bed floor with 3M seam sealer to level things out where the fuel tub will mount. This should allow for a decent seal between the bed floor and the tub.

I drilled mounting holes, then got it snugged into place. I then tack welded the tub to the bed side and wheel tub in a few places.

Once the welding cooled off, I tightened down all the bolts cleaned up the welds and seam area. I then applied some seam sealer around the edges of the fuel tub. I figured this would be a better way than welding it solid to the bedside and wheel tub. This way if I ever have to remove it (Lord, I hope not) I just unbolt, split a couple welds and off she comes.

That is about all for today. Once the seam sealer dries, I'll sand it smooth, then do a little filler work on the tub.

Re: "Will it Ever Get Done?"

You ever have one of those days? I was happy to get on the ole girl this morning. As I was starting I remembered as I looked at here I forgot to apply the seam sealer a little thinned down so it would smooth out nicer. Oh well, the old fashion sanding way to smooth it out first.

Sanded things down and applied some glass-hair filler to so I could smooth out the tub cut and welding seams a bit. More sanding, a little filler, more sanding. I decided to see how she looks with some primer.

I am pretty happy. I need to do a second seam sealer run (thinned out) and smooth out the seams. Other than that, I like the way it came out.

Re: "Will it Ever Get Done?"

Between sandings on the top half of the filler tub, I also worked on cleaning up and sealing the under/inside area of the tub.

I had coated it in spray on bed liner, but I knew it would burn off some where I tacked it on. So I got inside and cleaner around the weld marks, then rust coated the areas and added more spray on bed liner.

Onec everthing is finalized/assembled, I am going to seal the hole where the filler tube drops down with a heavy rubber mat. I think it should keep the majority of any road slime the tires through up out of that pocket.

Re: "Will it Ever Get Done?"

Went ahead and cleaned up the fuel door. Painted the inside with the color, but leaving the outside just primer until I paint everything. The door should sit a little more flush once I have the rubber bumper stops in place.

Re: "Will it Ever Get Done?"

As I mentioned earlier. it was one of those days. I was doing some sanding/blocking on some other areas to smooth things out on the front fenders and instead of making it better, I messed it up some (no pictures...I don't wanna be held accountable ). On well, I still got a bunch more sanding/blocking to do, but the ole girl is starting to look like a truck.

I like it; my next project, after my daughter’s truck comes home, is going to be a ’67 to ‘72 short-fleet. We went to see a guy yesterday who has several in different states of disrepair. We have to decide how much work we want to do. I’ll continue to follow your project.

Re: "Will it Ever Get Done?"

Not a whole lot of photo graphical progress. Just lots of sanding.

I did acquire a few new items for the girl. I was up visiting GMan69 yesterday, and through a friend got the seat I have been wanting for a long time for here. really great shape too. It came of of a 92. I also picked up some gray visors out of a 92 Exploder today to replace the tan ones when I was going to use bucket seats. They should clean up pretty nice

Now the wife and son will be able to cruise together with dad.

Now I gotta get my butt in gear and

sand, sand, sand, sand....well you get the idea.

Hoping for some paint soon.

Re: "Will it Ever Get Done?"

Nice lookin' seat you got there!

About those stupid rubber thingys for the fuel filler door, put a dab of glue on them before you install them, I've already lost a couple of the stupid things. I've somehow popped them off while washing the truck, on both the 67 and my Z71. You have to pull hard on them to get them to install, so I never imagined they'd just fall off by hitting them with a sponge

Re: "Will it Ever Get Done?"

Man, sometimes I really hate body work. All I have been doing is sanding and resanding. Then I look at the thing and it seems like I haven't done anything. Eveyrthing still looks like a splotchy old truck. I think I am getting closer to where I can shooting the primer and color on the interrior.

Oh well, back to the grindstone, well sanding block.

Re: "Will it Ever Get Done?"

Still sanding. I did push the truck around in the shop. I need to get the thing so it can move on it's own.

Like I said earlier, just seems like splotchy ole truck. not too much progress or at least the look of progress.

Soon as the weather settles a hair, I'll be shooting the whole thing in epoxy primer and hopefully some color on the interior.

I did set up the struts I'll be using instead of hood springs.. Now all that should be left on them is to finish cleaning and painting the hinges.
