Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

Well I have been talking to Mar-K about getting the upper trim and they are telling me they are not going to be able to make the upper trim that I am looking for. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Are you talking about the truck upper trim? Who did you talk to?

Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

You need to talk to James. He's the one that I worked with for the trim on my suburban. I'm pretty sure he told me that that made several sets.

Yes the upper trim. I was talking to someone named Vickie and she was talking to James. They did remember your burb. They said they didnt have the tooling to make make the curve to match the body line and it wouldnt fit right.

I'm not sure what she's talking about. All they did for me was to make the truck bed piece longer. No special tooling was required. Send her these pictures to help remind her, .

Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

Got the wind shield installed, the hood set and the cowl on today.

Mar-K is supposed to be sending me some information on the upper trim tomorrow. I think (hope) it is going to be able to work.

Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

I tried getting the rear side glass installed and Im stumped on how to get them in. I may end up calling a glass company to install them, anyone have any tips?

I got an email back from Mar-K and I dont get what they are telling me. They say they have the trim and I can get it long enough for the suburban, but it wont fit right because of a body line the suburban has. Here are the pictures they sent to me showing why it wont fit correctly.

Looks pretty close to me, I bet you could make it work. I would find a used piece of bed trim and try it out first, before you purchased the new stuff.

Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

Maybe I can shed some light on this issue. This is James at Mar-K. One of the things that made the bedside trims work for "Hart Rod" is that he modified the rear ends of his bedside area on his Suburban. He grafted the Fleetside bedside ends to his Suburban. The Fleetside bedside ends have a slightly different shape (less curve inward at taillight area) to them than the Suburban. It is not an up and down curve issue. What the pictures are trying to show is that the trim leaves the body surface the last 1" or so on a stock Suburban. These trims do not like to bend much without cracking the finish. This is the reason for us not selling these to fit the standard Suburbans. We will sell them as long as you understand what you are getting. Also, you will need to use all bolt in clips on the front fender upper trim. This trim is die stamped instead of roll formed. The adhesive clips will not fit this trim. The reason I'm telling you this is that the front fenders will need to come off to install the front fender upper trim. I hope I did not just rain on your parade.

Thanks James. No you didnt rain on my parade at all.

Here is a picture I just took looking down. I put a straight edge on the back where I would like the trim to go and I do see the gap and it seem very minimal in my opinion and it seems like it could be bent. It looks like difference in the curve is less than 0.25 inch over a 6 inch span. I think I am going to do what Rob suggested and find an old piece and see if I can get it to bend without damaging it.

If you get a set and get it installed before I get a scrap piece, can you let me know your results?

I'm sure you'll be ready before I am. I do not plan to put them on till i do paint in march/april, I have to put the air ride in and new drivetrain first. I hope to start that at christmas.

Your burb is looking great, I would love to go blue and white like you, but I do not have the cash to redo the interior to match. Love the aired out pic, cannot wait to see it done. I even like the dog dish look.

Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

Ironically, i am also looking for this trim to redo mine before we go on the Hot Rod Power Tour. I emailed Mar-K and they actually directed me to this thread to talk with you guys. Is anybody doing this soon?

I will probably order trim in another month or two. I have to get the paint sanded and buffed first.

Speaking of color sanding and buffing, I got started today and it is going to take a while to get it done. I started working on half of the hood today and im really happy with the results. I may go ahead and get it moved back over to my garage this week too, gotta clear out some stuff first.

Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

I broke down yesterday and called the glass guy out to install the back windows...I have to say that was money well spent. I also got the weather stripping in.

Got a little more of the sanding and buffing done. Not bad for a garage paint job.

Im hoping to get her moved home to my garage today. My wife says the suburban is my mystress and so she has a name....Alice
