Flattered for sure! When the time comes I will be more than happy to give you any information that you will need.

Well it's been a horrible week... after a long battle with cancer my sister passed on Monday the 18th. Went to the shop this morning and started on the steering column to keep my mind busy... really hard to get motivated.

After looking at the many types of columns available I've decided to make my own version. Most that are available just don't have the features needed for this build. I want a light weight very basic unit that features ball bearings... not plain bearings. Removeable wheel with turn signal buttons on the wheel (right/left) that feature hazard lights incorporated into the two buttons... more on that later. Had an old Schroeder steering wheel... so I mounted that up to a Sweet quick release for mock up.

Some pics

Re: 66 Pro Street Build (Domeringer)

Gary, I am sure you know that we are there for you, cancer is nobody's friend.

I have always found that getting on with something was my best therapy. So for my mum I built a large trailer and for my dad, I broke out a window and door in my garage and bricked part up and fitted a bigger doorway.

Celebrating someone's life is also a great way of dealing with the loss.

Your build is simply awesome, way beyond my simple attempts and abilities.

I will continue to watch your build quietly from the side.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the very kind condolences.

Keeping busy!

I had some 1 1/2 .06 wall stainless tube kicking around so used that for the column. Found some very NICE 7512 DLG surplus bearings on ebay for $24.00 shipped... made in USA. Just what I needed 3/4 ID X 1 1/2 OD.

Used some 1" 4130 .065 tube for the steering shaft and machined some stub ends to cap it off. Going to use 3/4 DD steering joints from Borgeson so machined the stub on one end for that and the other end for the Sweet steering quick disconnect.

Also bought some aluminum collars from McMaster Carr machined some flats and tapped them to mount the column. This thing is ready to spin at 3000 RPM LOL. Should get it mounted this weekend... still need to make an extension for the wheel to make it easier to get out of truck in case something happens. So far... less the Sweet disconnect I have about $80.00 invested in the column.

Very nice work on the column

Do you have something in mind for turnsignals?

Thank you Captain.

Yes used this before in custom MC applications Penta-Star™ XP Module everything is there using 2 momentary push bottons... left and right thumb buttons on the steering wheel.

Re: 66 Pro Street Build (Domeringer)

Thanks for the link. That looks and sounds like a great unit. In your past installations did you use a coiled/retractable cord?

Re: 66 Pro Street Build (Domeringer)

Welcome! Yes typical race coiled cord setup with a Cannon connector so the wheel can be removed from the truck. If someone steals the truck, they are going to have to use a pair of vice grips to steer LOL

Thank you man! Next... pull the cab for the last time to finish weld and paint the chassis.

Been a pretty busy week at work so didn't get a whole lot done on the truck. Made a steering shaft extension.

LOL Thanks bud!

CNC'd a couple of steering column brackets yesterday... instead of using the McMaster Carr clamps. Will be a lot cleaner of an install that way, should get that column installed today and get some more pics uploaded tonight
