Re: My 52 GMC Build
Thanks everyone!! I pulled it outside last night and had it running for about half an hour sound even better outside. I'm ready for the car show on Sunday, in Paris Ontario called the Unfinished Nationals. But I'm still trying to get more stuff done before then.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Made some stake pockets last night just got them tacked on and ran out of welding gas. 2x2 1/8" wall tube look good I think. Also some outside pics.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Because my box is 2" longer than a short box and my rear fenders are a little farther back than stock. I was thinking should I add a middle stake pocket bar like the long box has, something like this. yes or no? What do you guys think?

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Unless needed for strength I think one looks good. That would leave some open space for something you might want to add later possibly....sign, pinstripe, something...

Re: My 52 GMC Build
I like the second stake pocket. I also like seeing a spare tire there too.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Sorry 99 no spare tire on this truck
Not sure about pockets I'll have a better look at the car show. So yesterday I ordered my custom axle shafts from Moser. Ordered the stainless steel for my gas tank. Put 4L of gear oil in the diff and slapped in the headlights.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
no on the second stake pocket. with the bed being 2" longer, people will notice something different, but most likely wont be able to "see" the difference. a 2nd pocket would tell them what is different.

Found this article about a '49 burbin on a tahoe frame. Might be an idea for the burbin guys?

Re: My 52 GMC Build
I shortened my 3/4 ton box, and left the second stake pocket. Most people notice something is different but don't understand what it is. I like that it stands out from the crowd. Check out my photos, maybe that will help you decide.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
The car show was Great, but I'll start off by showing what I got done Friday.
Built my rear cab support bridge. Then added supports to mount the center seat. The bars are angled like that because my seats are offset. Made another tranny cross member to support the front of the shifter. Seat folded down it's my armrest.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
So the car show was amazing. I had more ppl around my truck all day long than any other vehical there. Out of 800 or so cars I won Best Lead Sled
Definition: In automotive usage, a lead sled is a hot rod consisting of a heavily modified stock vehicle. Getting pulled into the show with the motor running was great (like I was driving)

Re: My 52 GMC Build
congrats, its hard to find time to take away from a build to go to a show sometimes. But usually always worth it in the end.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
So a great day today. Got a phone call from the guys who ran car show. I guess I left early because he told me I also won Vehicle of the year. I said really, are you kidding. I get a trophy for a year and then a plaque next year when the trophy goes back. I'll get details when I get the trophy. The truck's not even done yet

Re: My 52 GMC Build
I picked up the stainless steel I'm making the fuel tank with. Time to fire up the tig. It's 16ga. The 2 pieces for the tank are on top of each other the smaller pieces are for baffles and mounting.
