Hey McMurphy,
Oreillys but yeah that is them. Went back and forth several times find the tright lengths and tube diameters but working out nicely. Getting ready to tackle the back ones next after I get my new car home 1984 Pontiac firebird se 38k miles 500$. All original needs a set of seats titling and registration then start driving it to and from work.

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

ok got the rear driver side brake line bent tweaked and partially in have not tightened it down quite yet trying to find the clips chevy used on the brake caliper hoses at this time, engine is back in and starting to put front accessories back on at this time. NExt will be reassembling the front nose to work on the cold air setup!!! the escalade filter box is too durned big so looking at other options at this time. My alt/ps bracket interferes with the connection piping to it oh well more reasearch and experimentation on the smurf lol

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

ok got the front accessories back on the engine with exception of alternator whichI will do tommorrow night and get it bolted down and in place. Ac compressor brackets is ready for final configuration. I was using a junk bracket for the mock up so I need to get a good one and do all the mods to it like with this one.. Take a look n see turning out very well gotta love google searches lol!!! found this whole idea on a monte carlo forum using the ls engine in the other guys car!!!!
The rear bracket to head brace I think I am going to double the steel strapping I am using to make it a bit more rigid will be looking at it tommorrow evening and see what I can do with it!!

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

ok guys been looking at ideas vent positoining and other lil odds ends in the interior of the pickup and will be dropping some pictures of the ideas I came up with :P I am mercilessly stealing parts from ford trucks for this part of the project since they are dammed near perfect for what I want lol.. Kinda like the console. On the console I am going to get a gennie shifter shift plate and leather boot with the shift indicator module so I can see which gear she is in at night times.. Will get my machinist friend to make some polished aluminum surrounds for each of the vents with some inset allen head machine bolts to make it look nice.....

Also a pic of the new bird at the house will be having it up n inspected here soon, son will drive it temporarily till his 69 is repaired. in the midst of this we are house hunting in north texas came across a gew very nice properties today OMG one of them the old boy built the entinre house and designed a 40x50x18 foot ceiling garage that is capable (and been done) of a 20 ton chain hoist assembly!!!! HE had a sterling 6x6 on the property but I couldnt talk him into selling it with the house grrrr dernit..................

Hey Sean, I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I had a 40 x 50 high ceilinged shop to play in! I'm betting I'd probably soil myself for sure! With a shop like that, who needs a house?

Keep up the progress my friend!

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

ok had a little spare time today after house hunting all morning, front core support is bolted back down I lifted it a bit so will see what happens when I get the fenders back on here soon. Also started some more work on the door seal idea I am working on. I got another run of the oreillys stick down weatherstripping and made a much better inner door panel seal with one section and had a 4 foot section left over so started putting it along the leading edge of the door and looking good sealing all the way around the top and sides of the door. here are some pictures:

Also while out hoyse hunting found this old beast in a guys back yard I may try and snatch up once the smurf and my next project the 69 import eater are done lol he looks like the perfect candidate for a 4 cyl isuzu diesel and double overdrive setup for an excellent dd to and from my work lol combine a ranger overdrive plus an nv4500 for 54% iverdrive with 4.11 gears oughta get pretty decent diesel mileage!

That would be a righteous ride with that Isuzu diesel in it.

I have been out of pocket on the forum for a spell. How is the Smurf coming and when did you move to Tacoma?

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Sorry to hear about the move and selling the motor you had intended to motivate the Smurf with. On the bright side, at least its set up for another LS motor if you happen to run across one at an affordable price since a 4.8 or 5.3 will fit as well as a 6.0!

Tacoma isn't a bad place to spend an extended "vacation" at. I have relatives in the Bremerton/Tacoma area. Its a hella pretty area to see! Dallas will still be here when you return though! Keep me posted on the build and on Smurfette!

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Well all settled in have a nice paying full time job up here. now back to collecting smurf parts once the OT starts rolling in. Going after another rLS motor with a few changes to the plans on the truck nothing to horribly major atm. Looking at just doing an lq9 engine at the moment relatively cheap up here + I can wire in cruise control for my ole beast. Transmission decided against an auto since I can not get enough overdrive out of it without big bucks on a gears vendors. Going to install a nv4500 and ranger combo in the truck instead with give total 0.54 overdrive for my 4.56 gears lol Plus 25k towing capacity lol. Got the aluminum radiator and cooling fans in hand in the new garage. Been working on a new fuse panel project for the LS motor went junk yard divin for a weekend and came up with something that will work really sweet. Got lucky on terminals for it and should have it ready in few more weeks when the terminals come in from terminal supply company. Here are a couple of pics of the future ls fusebox and labeling. found out fedex kinkos can make custom outdoor labels for this kinda stuff for pretty cheap.

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

been doing a little more work on my fuse block idea and turnin up roses. Got a bunch of the needed terminals on the way in this week from a couple of suppliers: terminal supply and mouser both. Also got online with ebay and did some hunting getting a 2004 chevy engine and trans harness from a junkyard in Alabama for 125 now all gotta do is hunt up the right tac module and pedal for the setup next. should have it all in hand next week to start assembling the fuse block and underhood relay center .

Sean
first pick is of the relay power wires coming off the maxi fuses and second is the modified mount so most of the wires will be coming out from underneath the block.

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Hey guys been busy as hell on the under hood fuse block assembly nearly finished 4 more sets of connectors and it will be completely finished, at the same time have been stripping and removing the unneeded wires out of a 05 lq9 caddy engine harness and getting it prepped n ready to install. Will be nice having cruise control. NExt step get the engine and start hooking it all up and checking the layout after that start chasing nv4500 transmissions and try and find a nice used 2wd setup for the next stage of the project. luckily the truck is 1800 miles from me so I can do this and once I get home slap it in and few things to do and drive it down the road . MAinly have to fix a few floorboard issues in the truck from past transmissions lol the reinstall the interior pull the main harness for a few more wiring mods and hopefully hopefully that will be it dam this has been a long long road but end is now in sight. lol here are some pics of the completed fuse block assembly and the harness on my work bench

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

After a lucky parts find, namely free, I am getting a used GMC gauge cluster ready for a 6061 aluminum plate layover for the opening to install the 4 inch gauges when I have the extra money to afford them going to be heading back to the junkyard another day and track down the mating connector out of a harness for the lq9 fuel injection harness so I can have a plug in connector for the tach, speedo, mil, serial data, and cruise wires then just get some terminal s and wire it up.

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

been busy for last few months since posting last and have completed the under hood wiring fuse block and ls powertrain harness. Also started researching the ls1 24x reluctor wheel for the big block 454 mark IV that my brother is bringing to me in a few months. Apparently efi connection big block parts will not work with any engine older than 1991 due to the differences in the oil pan and timing chain covers. On the harness I repinned both the fuel injectors and the coil packs to match the older V8 firing order. The computer will be programmed to match the fuel trims on the changes in the harness and engine firing banks. Here are some photos. When I get closer on the poor mans efi build will setup a thread dedicated to it solely for education purposes and for whomever might wish to attempt doing there own on the cheap like I am doing lol . Plans are to get the 454 get everything situated on the harmonic balancer for the reluctor wheel and do something similar to what the ford 5.8 Windsor engine uses found out they have a balancer mounted reluctor in place on those engines so may be finding one in a junkyard to snatch the sensor mount off of for experimentation purposes lol. The plans for the 454 are to destroke it and basicall change it into the 427 version with a few goodies from Chevrolet performance and a few other places and get it completed ready for dyno break in and programming here in seattle!

Sean
the first pic is of the reluctor wheel took a bit of time but located the tdc tab on the wheel and it lines up dead on the crank with the front crankshaft keyway. next step is a 427 balancer to experiment with and get a machinist to locate this on the crank and trim out the center hole for the pulley to mount in place.
Second is the underdash harness and app pedal plug. I am aiming for the truck to have cruise control with this setup using the drive by wire throttle body so I have more room under the hood for other things.
Third is the completed fuse block with harness connections in place for the fuel injection harness and electric fan wiring.
4th is the plans for the harmonic balancer and where to mount the wheel to it to get it setup for the computer controls.

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Ok tax time has came and went and what it brought me was a poor battered donor truck 1997 chevy k3500 with a vortec 454 4l80e and numerous bits of reuseable wiring for my 64 truck. getting ready to pull the 454 and get it rebuilt with a ramjet 502 cam and a few other odds n ends along with configuring the fuel injection harness I built formerly and get it dropped in come september when my 64 gets shipped up from Oklahoma . the 4l80e and transfer case already getting traded for a cummins nv4500 which will need a rebuild and chevy input shaft placed in it.
