Very nice. Great job Delmo. Love the shoes.

That looks so cool. What size tires and rims did you use?

Re: Jackalope
I've got a simple question I'd like opinions about:
If you had a truck as nice as this; patina and all....if something rusts through i.e. the raingutter, a hole at one of the windows, spot in the floor, etc... Do you repair it with new metal, prime and leave it or what? As much as I love the look of the patina it would bother me to let rust cancer eat my truck. Just asking opinions. |

Re: Jackalope
I've thought about that too. I like the patina look but wouldn't want it to deteriorate any farther. I think sometimes people spray them with clear with a flatener in it to protect it and preserve the look.

Re: Jackalope
Thats's a great question. My opinion is that if you can live with the current condition of the truck, ie a bit of rust and patina. Then driving it as is will most likely not do much more damage than mother nature has over the 50-60 it's been around for. If you live in a really rainy part of the country or are running it through the winter then I would suggest some Gibbs oil or some kind of rust protection but otherwise if it's a summer cruiser I say drive the crap out of it. The day might come when you cut the rust out and replace it anyway, what's another few years really going to do to it?
The patina trucks that I have built all get seam sealer and spray on undercoat. Only because they are built to be drivin. Other than that nothing has been applied for paint protection. Just my opinion, probably not the right one. LOL |

Re: Jackalope
Totally agree with Delmo on the subject, but that is why I love southern California. When I lived in Virginia, I had a different opinion...

Re: Jackalope
Del, its a combination of modern hot rod building and historic preservation both of which are have mastered.
Regarding Patina: You would be surprised how long one of these trucks will last when you keep it in the garage. Hmm how long does bondo take before it starts to shrink and crack your show paint? Just sayin! |

Re: Jackalope
Wow, this is an awesome build and glad you left the original patina. What did you do with the interior beside hose it out? I have a 1950 GMC that I was wanting to leave the original patina but the interior is pretty rusty too. Wasn't sure if it would look right with the interior looking new but the outside looking rusted. Once again, great job!

Re: Jackalope
Okay, am I the only one that feels a little short changed here? Delmo, you have GOT to post more pics than that of your truck now that it is done. There should be a shot of the front, the back, one while driving down the freeway, the "deserted lot" shot, the "laying on your stomach" low level shot, the interior shot, the sunset shot, the moody/grainy shot for my PC wallpaper, a shot of the bed, etc, etc, etc.
I just need more pics of this truck, and I think I speak for all my fellow board members... It is your duty as a responsible poster to feed our sick need for pics of this truck. |

Re: Jackalope
Well she moved out of the shop on it's own power today. My good friend Dave martinez came by and cut out the carpet so he could take it back to his shop and sew it up nice and install pedal holes etc. Seat and carpet should go in tomorrow then it will be a nice loud drive over to the exhaust shop. Whoohooo!!!

Re: Jackalope
Hey Delmo,
If you mentioned it, I missed it but what did you do to the bedwood? Looks excellent, classy. Kinda looks oiled-only. Or did you clear it with some flat clear of some kind? |

Lin Seed oil my man. Carefully applied by a true craftsman and billionaire playboy Sam Castranova. As seen in post 91. LOL
