Re: J.M. Laflamme Build
thanks!
Now that the radiator is in and hoses connected, it was time to figure out what to use for an overflow container. We decided that an old fire extinguisher would make a good candidate. I'll get some brackets made up and mount it next to the radiator. Once painted and decaled it should be a good conversation piece. here is a pic in its rough state. Added a spout on the bottom and poof! should work nice. I should add, I also took the pin out of the top so it will breath. Brian

Re: J.M. Laflamme Build
Great build, I love your unique approach to getting modern comfort and performance with a classic look. You have my brain going now with the idea of doing the same with a Kodiak or Top Kick and my 56 6100 two ton dump. I will defiantly be watching this build great idea.

Re: J.M. Laflamme Build
thanks for the kind words guys!
We got the overflow tank in and functional today. We used the air canister bracket off the donor truck and modified it to fit the fire extinguisher. It is only functional, we wanted to see it if would work... and it did its job. next will be to pretty it up and hide the hose a little better etc. only one pic but here you go... time to order some electric fans, rough wired in so we can drive it in and out of the shop and have whatever needs done, done. p.s. the plastic tank lower left is a temporary gas tank. works good for now until we get back to the bed. which is where the tank wil go once finished. thanks for looking, Brian

Re: J.M. Laflamme Build
We cut out the inner parts of the side panels, We then took a big piece of cardboard and made a new template.
Tomorrow we will be visiting our local sheet metal shop for some goodies!!! Here is a couple more fun pics before we put it back in the shop. Enjoy. Brian

Re: J.M. Laflamme Build
the local sheet metal shop was closed today... BAAAAA!!!!!
so here is what we did... We scavenged the donor truck and grabbed the crank down for the spare tire. My Uncle insists we have a spare tire on board! well what do I know? so this is what the out come was... here is it roughed in...

Re: J.M. Laflamme Build
Well so here we go...
it worked so we started to see how we could do it without it interfering with the tail gate. we wanted the original crank from a 88-98 set up to just bolt in, in case it ever broke we could just bolt another one in. as you see it fits and will be well hidden when finished.

Re: J.M. Laflamme Build
Now,
you can see how the tail gate hides the hex that cranks it down.

Re: J.M. Laflamme Build
So, here is a conclusion to our thoughts...
what you don't see... so you all know that the tail gate of these guys do not come off. With that being said, here is what we did.(without pics) the drivers side has a notch now cut out on the bottom of the tail gate like the newer trucks. if I were to get a flat, I can just open the tail gate 1/4 and take it off. Then have full access to the crank to lower the full size spare. presto! back on the road. enjoy! we are very happy with progress on this. Brian p.s. the next post is the 200th!!!!
