Re: Project "Poison Ivy" 54 GMC
I used pieces from the original bed sides where I cut out for tire clearance.. Where I welded and ground the edges I sprayed it with salt water I mixed up to get it to rust.. I am going to do the same to the piece I made around the gas filler..

Re: Project "Poison Ivy" 54 GMC
License plate dilemma solved! I took the radius of the bumper ends and and used them in the center... The opening is a little tight to be able to completely view the plate but I will let it rock until the Law has in issue... I am not crazy about it but its pretty clean looking and the best I could really come up with.. next I am going to build a filler panel to go under the plate to the bumper and carry from the back side of the bed to the to inside of the bumper, very similar to how the front bumper is...

Re: Project "Poison Ivy" 54 GMC
that'll work...up here they piss and moan over front plate too, funny how something that is mandatory for a vehicle doesn't look good on them. Must have been hard putting that first cut in.

Re: Project "Poison Ivy" 54 GMC
It was hard putting all the cuts in... From what I learned it is made of spring steel... It wiped the teeth right off of the air saw blade first pass... All cutting wheel there!

Re: Project "Poison Ivy" 54 GMC
I really like this truck. I like how even the new mods were aged. If I can find a 47-59 Burb that is in similar shape I would build it in a similar fashion.

At first I was thinking it would go around your gas filler, but that already has a bead on it so probably not that.

Re: Project "Poison Ivy" 54 GMC
I'm a little stumped, but I think I can rule a few things out. You have a bench seat, so I don't see it being an armrest. By the fab work, it is probably something that is going to be seen. So I'm assuming inside the cab or outside. Not under the truck. It looks like one edge has a 90 on it and the other has a rolled edge, so I think it is going to flat up against something.

Re: Project "Poison Ivy" 54 GMC
Lots of good guesses!!! Actually you guys gave me some other ideas! We were talking at the shop one night and since the truck lived its life on a nursery it needed a few props to keep that theme rolling.. Here is what I came up with.. Stay tuned for more cool ideas coming your way...

Re: Project "Poison Ivy" 54 GMC
Thanks... I used four different spray bombs, Black, brown, tan and a red oxide primer... a little 320 sandpaper and a scuff pad... I didn't spray this one with sal****er to get it to rust yet.. I might let nature run its course..

Re: Project "Poison Ivy" 54 GMC
This is a great theme build....very creative. Maybe some burlap bags of grass seed in the bed would be a nice touch.
