Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

In these pics show how the shape starts. the first one I just started to tack on the round bar 1/4" this will make it very rigid as well as give it a rounded surface after welding and metal finish. the 2nd pic shows both sides tacked on..
It also shows a good look at how the metal is flush with the old strip from O.E. dash..

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

Here I have started the shaping of my "floating console" idea using round bar again, it is easy to bend and shape and makes a very strong structure..

In these pics It shows how the dash is able to come out pretty easy. Now the hard part starts! covering the wire frame...

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

Here is the first look with the panels going on..
pic #2 gives a good look of the shape it's taking...
For the panels I'm using 20g metal so it is fairly easy to work with. I first take poster board and get my shapes down and then transfer to metal..

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

This is the backside of the piece. I simply tack the metal to the frame and move and tack, move and tack till it's fitting the way I want..

Nice job!

Looks a bit like a WWII aeroplane now
Are you let it metal or is it covered when you're finished?

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

To answer that I am not 100% sure yet...I think it will be bare steel with matte clear. I may take a vote from you guys to help that decision....
I really wanted a unique style dash and interior so this is the product of that...

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

So after I put it back in the truck I then started to mockup the A/C (blue poster board strips on right) and poss. gauge placement.

In this first pic. it shows the poster board shape I came up with and was using 20 gauge metal again.
#2 shows after I transferred the shapes to metal and tacked into place.
