Re: '70 GMC SWB Money Hole
Okay,
Thanks to Chad (69CCRat...I'm gonna blame it on you, at least to my wife ), I traded my BRAND NEW CPP front upper & Lower tubular control arms for a new pair of '67 SWB bedsides and front fenders for this truck. Bedsides were perfect and the fenders will be picked up Saturday. I really dig the '67 panels without the marker lights...may just be me? Now I guess I am COMMITTED to buying a touring PB dropmember, PB control arms & a fox mustang rack & pinion.... D@Mn D@mN d@MN!!! Notice the PB rear notch and upper shock bar still in place on the frame. I've removed the tank, lines, and 2 rear most crossmembers in preparation for sandblasting. Anyone notice the GIANT open end wrench??? It was my wifes Grand Daddy's... He was a boilermaker and recently passed away. It weighs 1 Billion pounds, btw! I am trying to find someone with a CNC Mill that will engrave his last name into it (like a Craftsman wrench) for my wife. He was like my wife's father (her dad passed on at an early age). |

Re: '70 GMC SWB Money Hole
Drove over to Georgia and bought a pair of doors from Keith (HeeHawRacing) and looked at all of his cool pieces & parts...good stuff.
Anyway, when I got home it was still raining so I went into the basement and commenced to putting my new bedsides and o.e. front & rear bedpanels together. My wife was not impressed |

Re: '70 GMC SWB Money Hole
I now have '67 front fenders & bedsides, new doors, a new 67-68 core support, and a bunch of other pieces/parts. I'm going to look at another cab on Wednesday. I may just have to build another truck.

Re: '70 GMC SWB Money Hole
So does my wife...NOT!!! Now there's 2 doors, the partially assembled bed, 2 front fenders, an A/C dash, the rest of the bed cross pieces, & a gob ton of other pieces/parts.
I'm starting to push for permission to build me a workshop. I've laid out the groundwork with her, and I have the general location for it...it'll be 30'x46' with an arch style ceiling with a wall height of 12 ft. Hopefully I will get the go ahead now that I showed up home yesterday with a 1970 non a/c complete cab . I put it in the bed of the GMC...on her side of the garage Told her it didn't need to be out in the weather... |

Re: '70 GMC SWB Money Hole
Ordered my firewall filler panels from Porterbuilt. Now I think I've gotten all of the obvious body pieces collected or ordered.
Now I have to save up, so I can order my PB mild dropmember, PB control arms, R&P, and the triple joint steering shaft. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: '70 GMC SWB Money Hole
No!!! For the price of the supercharger, I'd buy a CTSV power plant.

Re: '70 GMC SWB Money Hole
Haven't worked on the truck stuff in quite awhile, but I have a plan. I promised my wife that I'd do 1 project at a time. I finished the tile work on the lake house & I just got my '93 Mustang motor & trans swap finished up today. I know it's the "Devil", but its a lot of fun.

Re: '70 GMC SWB Money Hole
I'm out in Vegas at the SEMA show & I've seen some stellar versions of these trucks, but only 2 GMC's...that's why I dig the gmc so much. Just so fewer cool versions. Not that mine is remotely cool...YET, but now I'm motivated.

Re: '70 GMC SWB Money Hole
Not actually related, but I sold my H/D Street Glide and bought a Polaris Ranger 800 crew to help out with Honey-Do chores around the Hacienda. My new little buddy likes riding in it too...

Re: '70 GMC SWB Money Hole
Well, I've put a little work into the ole truck. I swapped out the built rearend for a stock 3.08 rearend (after swapping out the axles for 5-lug ones) and the McGaughy front big brakes were swapped for regular drop spindles and stock brakes. I'll be using the McGaughy stuff and the built 12 bolt on the '67 I'm now building. Now I gotta find a set of wheels to fit the stock rotors. I had to replace the u-joints and hanger bearing during this process too.

Re: '70 GMC SWB Money Hole
You are coming right along on the truck Ed. If you happen to get the Purchase Order to build that garage, use it right away. Wives have a way of changing their minds at a drop of the hat. Ask me how I know.
Have a great Memorial weekend. POP

Re: '70 GMC SWB Money Hole
I did finally buy a set of wheels & tires for the truck. It's just a set of '96 aluminum factory wheels, but they have a new set of 255/60r15 & 275/60r15's mounted on them. I want to swap out the wheels for a set of rally wheels now though

Re: '70 GMC SWB Money Hole
No real update, but I did drive Booger today and I got several thumbs up from folks. It's ugly, but it's still 44 yrs old and runs & drives great. It's going down the interstate at 75 mph at 2300 rpm with the new setup. I'm going to drop the rear another 1" and swap the '95 wheels for a set of 15x8" rally's too.

Re: '70 GMC SWB Money Hole
Everything has changed... New direction... This one is going up for sale. I bought the truck I've wanted for years this morning.
1968 Chevy SWB base model "Custom". Manual brakes & steering, 3OTT. Bought it from the grandson of the original owner...he said he isn't into these trucks. It has a tag from 1984 on the back. Grandson said this is the last time his grandfather drove. He inherited the house and all the contents. It's got Original (patina'd) paint, wheels, hubcaps...you name it, it's there. Original bill of sale even. Only damage is to the leading edge of thee d/s fender, rockers have a little rust and under the battery tray. Otherwise it's really remarkable. I'm FIRED UP. |

Re: '70 GMC SWB Money Hole
It's backed into the garage so it's tough to get any decent pictures. I'm bringing it home Saturday and I'll have LOTS of pictures.
