Re: Project "Jezebel"

That pretty much gets you up to date to where I am at the moment. Here are some current pics with the cab on the frame. As well as pics of the wheels and tires that I just realized I did not post before. Feedback welcome!

Re: Project "Jezebel"

Man, super attention to details! couple of questions,
Where did you get your rockers?
Where did you get the 3m seam sealer? do you have a part number?
What kind of primer is that? Epoxy?
Are you just using a D/A sander to get your paint to bare metal?
sorry for the questions, I'm getting ready to do my second cab for my project.
thanks

Re: Project "Jezebel"

Hey Mike,

No problem about the questions.

Where did you get your rockers?
They were made by Tri-plus. I think I picked them up from a vendor at the Daytona Turkey Rod Run.

Where did you get the 3m seam sealer? do you have a part number?
I got it at Orileys. Don't have the part # but if you cant find it send me a PM and I will ask my buddy who manages my local store for the PN.

What kind of primer is that? Epoxy?
Sherwin Williams Etch on bare metal and their 2k on top of that.

Are you just using a D/A sander to get your paint to bare metal?
Exactly, DA set to lock with 80 grit

Thanks for all the help Steve. I think the last rockers I got from LMC were triplus? They are a little on the short side just like yours.

I hope you guys thump the bayou bengals

Re: Project "Jezebel"

More updates

I told you guys in the beginning of this restoration I would not hide anything and show you the good, the bad, and the ugly. There has certainly been enough of the last two I tell ya.

This passenger door has been a real headache. First the repop door was not fitting right and then the OEM doors I had were full of rot. I ended up going back to my original passenger door with some modifications. First of all from the beginning the OEM door did not fit that well. It was really close at the top front by the windshield and also scraped the rocker at the bottom with no available adjustment. I thought I fixed this when I replaced the rocker but I guess something must have moved during welding. Anyway, it's fitting really well now with about 3/16" gap all the way around. Here are some pics of the process of patching the OEM door and working the gaps.

Thanks Cliff. It was nice meeting you this weekend and good luck with the cab and your build. It should work out very well for you.

Now that you have a rust free cab you have a big jump forward from where you were. Don't finish your truck before I get Jezebel done or it will make me look like a slouch!

As for motivation feel free to stop by anytime. Now get that build thread started so we can see what you are doing!

I decided I will go with the 67 front clip instead of the 69. Just like the grill and hood better.

Here she is mocked up before the metal work starts on these parts.

Re: Project "Jezebel"

Time to figure out what I need to do to resurrect these fenders.

Passenger fender below the battery. Normal place for rot. Then you have the normal, bondo fill patch... At least this guy put some metal behind it. Not the right way to do it, but definitely better than fiberglass.

I ordered a patch panel and will cut this out and replace when it comes in.

Name: 101_1960.JPG
Views: 912
Size: 14.5 KB

Now to the driver side fender. This one is in better shape but far from perfect.

Where I started
Name: 101_1965.JPG
Views: 904
Size: 19.4 KB

After ruining 5 sheets of 80 grit on my DA
Name: 101_1968.JPG
Views: 909
Size: 17.3 KB

This looks in good shape but does need a patch.
Name: 101_1966.JPG
Views: 906
Size: 13.7 KB

Anyone know where I can get a patch for this? Drivers sides are not reproduced. Anyone have a scrap fender they wouldn't mind cutting me a patch from? Let me know, thx.

Re: Project "Jezebel"

This is the spot that looked good in the previous pics really wasn't.

Typical stuff you guys have seen 1000 times. Cut it out.
Name: 101_1975.JPG
Views: 909
Size: 14.3 KB

Measure and cut a patch from sheet metal of the same gauge.
Name: 101_1977.JPG
Views: 907
Size: 14.9 KB

I used a scrap piece of muffler pipe to get the contour I needed.
Name: 101_1978.JPG
Views: 905
Size: 15.8 KB

Fiddle with it until you get it as close as you can.
Name: 101_1986.JPG
Views: 908
Size: 14.8 KB

Then weld it in and clean up your welds. As you can see I got a little more aggressive than I needed to with my cutoff when when I ground it down (scaring). Nothing a very light coat of filler wont fix.

Never seen a driver's side rusted in this region. Up north and east they rust everywhere. I may have one that I can hack for you. Let me check.
Nice work on the rust repair. Keep hammering buddy.

Re: Project "Jezebel"

Very nice work on the fender cup Steve. It's hard to believe how far off that was. I am just getting into some rust repair on mine. So far my biggest complaints, they use thinner metal than the original. The cab supports were quite a bit thinner and they don't remotely fit like the originals. I'm not sure it wouldn't be faster if I had a shear, brake and forming equipment to make some of the panels. Basically you have to re-shape them all but some are worse than others. I'm looking forward to updates on this one for sure. One of my favorites.

Oh yeah, how bout the tide? Congrats!
