Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build

Starting to look more like a truck everyday. I had a goal set to have it ready for the Spokane swap meet and car show in the middle of July, don't think I am going to make it.

I know I keep saying that I want it to be just like off the factory line if they made one but lets face it there are some things our friends in Detroit could have spent more time on. I'm not trying to make a show truck but it sure isn't going to be as flawed as a stock truck.

Ok here is the question of the day, and I really would appreciate your input. I saw some ABS door panels, same colors as factory upholstered panels, and they look like they might be more practical, has anyone used these or seen them any input would be great.

So jealous right now! Is that about a 6 inch lift after the frame mods?

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build

Oh yeah, I had asked about those repop panels also, the feedback I got was they were not countersunk for the screws like the original vinyl covered pieces. 4th door panel should be fun, huh? Im gonna cut and piece in the hole for the door handle, and then cover them... somehow...

Hope you make the Spokane swap meet and car show, I live in the area and would love to see this truck there. Did you have some '67-'72 truck parts listed on C-list recently?

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build

I purchased a pair of the reproduction ABS door panels from Jim Carter Truck Parts about four years ago. I was not happy with the look and feel of the ABS plastic. When I purchased them I did not know that they were made of a different material than the factory pieces. I've also been told that the factory chrome trim doesn't fit on the reproduction door panels, but haven't tested them yet.

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build

Hey guys been taking care of a lot of little stuff. A friend of mine came up with a set of 1970 big hub 373 geared axles and in incredibly nice shape. The axles in my truck right now are 411. Since the truck will be on the highway traveling to car shows and swap meets I think the 373 gears will save me money on fuel.

In addition I have been upholstering both seats with the dark olive and houndstooth that I had made. If I could upholster the furniture in my house I would, its that nice.

Here are some pictures of what that I have done today. I did the passenger side bed floor and tomorrow I will do the drivers side.

The truck will not make the Spokane Swap Meet since I strongly believe that you should not take something like this to such an event without it being 100% complete. Don't think I can stand to hear people say "that will be neat when it is done".

Been having some trouble with the help, trying to get that worked out so the project has slowed down. I miss the good ole days when people enjoyed working on projects like this.

Need to get this truck done soon, I have two cabs that I need to get started. I am building another 69-70 and I have had a request for a small window 67', I will be using my really nice a/c 67' to build that one.

I will try to keep this post up to date.

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build

Well this is what I will be doing today, the left side rusty spot. What is funny is the rest of the bed is perfect except for these two spots.

I will probably make short work of this broken off bolt.

Per your request here are a couple pictures of the seats, the front seat is finished and you can tell the back seat is almost finished. As you can tell I have restored the seat sliders. Replaced the springs that always break on the side of the seats both front and rear. Installed burlap and all frames have been painted.

I have decided I am going to go find myself a really comfortable man chair and have it reupholstered just like my truck seats with the houndstooth.

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build

Finally got it out of the paintbooth today, now nothing is holding me back from finishing it up!

The only thing I have left is to paint a tailgate, a friend of mine sold me an absolute perfect one. Literally needs no body work. Will go together pretty quick now.

I'm going to keep the bed off until after I have made all repairs and sprayed in the liner.

I'll try to keep you update, be looking for the finish product soon.
