Don't feel alone brother! I've had 3 different engines in mine, 2 different front and rear axles, went from manual to auto and am thinking of switching back to manual. It's just part of it! By the way, make sure to mark everything you pull off where it came from and put all the little pieces in baggies so it'll be easier to reassemble it when the time comes.

You mean I have to put it back together too?

That is good advice that I will be using for sure.

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

Well thanks. Hopefully I can move a little faster than I have lately

I hope to pick up a new front axle this weekend! D44 w/ disk brakes, and a 4:10 to match the rear Then I'll have one more piece to stare at

Thank you! Not too bad for never doing this before, but it's not perfect

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

I picked up my new front end yesterday! It's a Corporate 10 Bolt instead of the Dana 44 I was hoping for. I can't really complain though because it has disk brakes and matches my rear gear ratio and I only paid $160 for it.

Now I'm going to go out and get some things done and I'll post some pictures later today.

Thanks! I hope that he would be proud. He may not appreciate the lift or Torque Splitter I want to install, but I think he would like the rest

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

So, it's kinda sad but the only thing I got done on the truck with 4 days off was to clean the transfer case a little more. I also purchased an engine stand, but didn't get the chance to separate the engine and tranny. Man, cleaning of 40 yrs of grease and dirt blows!!!! Hammer and chisel works every time though

I'm thinking I may have to find me another TCase as the teeth on my input shaft on the 221 seems to be pretty warn.

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

Yesterday with the help of some buddies, I finished stripping the frame down to nothing. We removed the overload stops and all the lines. I'm going to start getting some quotes to have the frame blasted because I really just don't want to deal with the mess.

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

I tore apart the T case today. Thanks to another awesome member, I got a new input shaft, and it looks like that was the only issue with my current one.

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

Not much to report in the way of progress, but I did manage to get all the axles detached from the frame yesterday. The frame is ready to send off to the blaster now!

The frame is all loaded up and ready to head off to the blaster. I'll be taking it over this week.

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

Thanks!!! Yeah, that's my plan. I'm either going to use the VHT Rollbar and Chassis or Eastwood Extreme Chassis Black. I have to wait for it to warm up around here before I can paint it though.

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

Great work! I'm trying to decide if I want to box my frame now before I paint my frame. I can't decide though. I'm leaning towards no since these frames are pretty tough any way. Keep up the good work!

Thanks! Yeah, if I decided to box my frame, that would probably add another 20 yrs onto my build

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

Not much in the way of progress today. I did clean up the garage a little so I will actually be able to work on it. I'm going to be calling my local 4 wheel parts tomorrow to see how much their 4" lifts are. I decided to snap a shot while it was in the sunlight

Thanks! I know beautiful day right?! We've actually had quite the mild year. You would think I would have actually accomplished more this winter...but I'm motivationally challenged

I did get my lift ordered on Monday though.

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

It's weird it has been like spring with a few colder than spring days. What lift did you go with?

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

I ended up going with the Tough Country 4" HD all spring lift & Nitro shocks. I have heard a lot of people that are happy with them, and it was a decent price (at least I thought )
