Always nice to get new parts from the Brown Santa!!!

JMHO....you might as well throw that thermostat housing away....it'll leak like a seize in a matter of miles.....the pot metal they make those out of are crap...they will corrode something awful.....find a cast one at the local auto parts store, and permadry gasket (needs no rtv) and it'll last ya for a long time!!!....I'll post up a thread I did awhile back showing what I did (http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...24838)....hope this helps ya out

We accept your advice and have the correct parts in hand or on the way...Thanks so much for the heads up and the link. We are going to paint the thermostat housing Chevy orange anyhow. Jon and Greg were hard at it today. A computer crash lost us lots of valuable engine specs..but we had most everything written down also. Good thing we backed up our files with a PEN !!!

Glad to see your son is learning from this engine build. It's good to get that hands on experience.
I'm really not sure how you guys get anything done in that filthy shop though........J/K every time I see new pics in this thread I get shop envy. Keep the updates coming.

That's funny. Jon and I were laying on the floor friday night, staring at the ceiling and talking about what we needed to get done saturday (today). The boss cleaned the floor with the floor scrubber earlier in the day. So we took advantage of the clean floor and stretched our back and neck muscles. This shop is just the tear down and build up shop, our bodyshop is where we do all the dirty work. I'll snap some pix of it sometime. It's bot as clean as this shop, but pretty damn clean for a very busy bodyshop.

You can see in the pics that Jon was looking at the build manual to verify the torque specs and tightening procedure. Greg could have just as well told him from memory, but he told Jon he needed to look it up himself.

Glad to help out with the thermostat housing....didn't want to see ya have to replace that cheapo housing in a matter of miles!!

Like I said. We appreciate the heads up. I fricken hate leaks. Nothing worse than doing everything right, then finding out a part let you down.

AMEN!!!....I got a leak on the rear main seal that I am so mad about I could scream!!!....

....I think the one of yall laying on the floor staring at the ceiling would be quite funny....I can only image someone walking in looking at you 2 on the floor just staring!!!

Actually it would be better if you were caught in the act!!!

Power steering pump is apart and blasted and painted. The pump is still wet in this picture. The other parts are still warm....I just love re-building stuff !!

It was soooooo coated with grease and dirt... it was hardly rusty at all. New seals and re-assembled soon.

We got the visors installed today, cleaned more hardware, blasted and primed and painted the lower dash parts, weeded out more of the extras...we also installed the door opening weatherstrips last week. The ones on the body. Painted the park lamp housings. And Jon hand painted his bowtie for the horn button tonight. Looks great.

Yes, but not a minty one. It has a hole in the middle, but it's not torn anywhere. And we need the chrome for it.

Yes it does. You can see in the pix that the inside roof has a square patch in the middle. It had an antenna in the middle of the roof, a huge hole and lots of rust. I tried to repair it, but it warped all to heck. And yes, I tried everything I could to prevent that, but couldn't. I figured it had a headliner anyway, so I cut a 10" square in the inner roof. Massaged the outer skin back into shape and.... here we are.
