What junk yard do you go to for truck parts? I would kill to find some bumpers for my project. The back one is a little tough, doesn't seem to be much stepside stuff hanging around.

i use a-1 and hwy 64 in kirtland for most of my random parts. for the 67-72 stuff i just look on CL. i havent really looked for any of these old trucks at the scrap yards. around here they seem only to have the newer stuff.

I haven't really ventured into the scrap yards for that reason, didn't really see them having too much stuff for our trucks. Good to know I'm not missing much, ha ha.

I'll have to come up and see you sometime. Bayfield is an easy trip any day.

I spent some time plumbing a little air line and installing a regulator. i wanted regulated air for my die grinders and the DA sander for paint stripping. and eventually a paint gun. hopefully i can pick up a drier before i get there though. this is the result



then i cut the hole for the B&W in the bed. and immediately used my die grinder to clean up the edge!

i got the hubs turned down to fit it the rotor hat. its a close fit, just tight enough that it will go on easily but tight enough to keep the rotor pretty much centered.





tomorrow i hope to waterjet the test backing plate so i can start designing the final version.

i water jetted the spacer plate and then machined it down to the proper thickness. i think i can just ditch the dust shield and run .500 in the final version.





i hung all the stuff off the spindle. ill finish designing sometime soon hopefully.

the next version behind the spindle plate.



and proof of concept. i will run this on my truck, but if for some reason i feel boredom creeping up sometime down the road i will slightly modify the bracketry. there are a few spots where i had to grind for clearance that i can modify in the drawing. i could also swing the abutment slightly to perfect the caliper position on the rotor, but it is well within functioning.



i pretty much owe my design idea to mcmlxix.



i will finish the welding on this one and do the other side tomorrow.

both sides are done. i tweaked the bracket to allow the caliper to sit where it should. all i need to do now is get some wheel studs. and press them in.

Why? well because i am a masochist.

they are brakes from a 2003-08 dodge 2500. the rotors are bigger and the calipers are mo betta. i really hate ****ty brakes. the 1978 technology seemed a little underwhelming with the 1300#s of cummins and 47rh. i had this notion a while back and mcmlxix started doing it for his blazer and i was hooked. unfortunately i jumped in not realizing and not doing the research to find out that the 03-08 stuff was different than the 09-up. they have a symetrical mounting apparatus and these do not. so i had a little more head bashing to do. not to mention ford axles have the spindle outside of the brake bracketry. that actually helped with rotor clearance. it hurt with knuckle clearance.

the obvious advantage is the size. it also allows for a slip on rotor, which is handy. also if i fall into a pile of money i can upgrade to EBC rotors and yellowstuff pads. disadvantage is the size. i have to have 17" wheel. i had planned on 18"s so no biggy there.

Just kidding around but I wish I had those skills/tools. The drums on my Eaton seem in good shape. The build is coming along slow but that's ok. Trying to decide single stage vs. base/clear. Will likely go single stage.

no ethnics but i am planning on 18" wheels. trying to keep the sidewall towing friendly and the handling as nice a s possible.

i sheared this out and formed it tonight. hopefully get it welded up this weekend

Ah, makes sense. I never had a problem with inadequate brakes on a K30, but when it comes to brakes, bigger is ALWAYS better. If you are towing around your neighborhood, there is no such thing as too much brake.

that was my sentament as well. ive been over red mountain and wolf creek enough times to realize that i pretty much always get the bad weather. i make sure the trailer brakes are top notch and figured with this truck i may as well have 21st century technology. plus i have problems letting go of an idea if i haven't at least tried to make it work.

i am thinking about this swap for my jeep. it has a GM 60 and 40" tires and it still stops really well with the stock GM front brakes and the K20 rear disk swap. it is also lighter though so that helps

Got a little done to the fuel tank. hopefully tomorrow i can borrow my friends TIG so i can glue the draw tube and return tube into the JIC fittings. the fittings are just steel hydralic pipe to JIC adapters and the tube is 1/2" and 3/8" .035 wall SS tube. i will add a drain in the bottom and baffle it after i get the tubes situated.







i picked up a few wheel studs too so i can try to get them pushed into the hubs and make sure they will fit. same knurl diameter as the ford hub and the same thread as the dodge rear.

i got bored and decided a test fit was in order. it will look a lot better in satin black.

any good coating recommendations for the inside? is there a type of paint that is petrol-proof after it cures?





it will be ~ 34 gallons. hopefully that will make it about 30 gallons usable maybe a little more. should be good for a 550ish mile range.

its a 12v cummins. rear gear is 3.54:1. tires are going to bee 33s. 18 mpg shouldn't be hard to do. i actually hope to break 20. not banking on that though.
