Hey Sprint, been following your build, great work man! Can you give some details about your radiator shroud and fan setup? Did that shroud come from Cold Case and you bought the fans separately? Is that radiator a direct fit? Thanks!

My fan shroud came from ebay, FS369K is the part number. It looks like they changed it though as mine took 13 inch fans, not 14 inch like the current one shows. It was a pretty nice piece, I did slightly bend it to get the fitment spot on but nothing too major. I bolted it to the radiator with 8-32 screws. For the fans I used Spal.

Radiator is a direct replacement from Cold Case, so far I'm fairly happy with it. The upper hose connection should be about a half inch longer, but it will work as is I think.

Here is a close up of how I mounted the fans. I used a 1/4 inch bolt as a stud, bolted to the shroud with a jam nut. I used loctight and really tightened it so it wouldn't spin, then the nylock is just snug with a nut driver. Makes it easy to change a fan if need be.

Had some fun working in the cab this last weekend. I sprayed the inside firewall with some bed liner, I had tried to paint it the body color when I painted but it just didnt work out, this turned out pretty nice compared to what it was. From there where the carpet will be I put down sound deadener tiles, and then a deadening/insulating foam. Then we reassembled the brake pedal assembly and worked on the vintage air.

Not a lot of progress this weekend. A few random things taken care of yesterday, power steering lines and plug wires are what I have pictures of. My dad had the idea to use a stock power steering line and modify it to work with my power steering pump, we cut it to length and then had a hydraulic end crimped on. I think it will work pretty good in the limited space we had to work with. He bent the return line himself and it came out real good as well, looks like a matched set. I had the plug wires all neatly done but they were too far back on the engine and hit the cab, I changed how they mount and they now can slide forward in order to fit.

I had intended to prep my doors to be blasted today but we had another snow storm for the second week in a row, so I didnt make it to the shop. This weather has been something else lately.

I was able to get down to the shop tonight and do a small amount of painting. Some touch up on the firewall and some on the plug wire brackets. I then mounted my fuse block bulkhead to the firewall and did some touch up painting when that was in. Long story short, I missed the fact that the AAW harness uses a different bulkhead than stock when I was body working my firewall. Needless to say I was very angry when I found out it wasnt just a bolt in affair. I did the smallest amount of grinding to the firewall as possible and instead modified the harness.

Update for the last few weeks.

First week, another blizzard. Next couple weeks, mocking up my doors for power windows and locks. Also doing some piddly things on the cab with some wiring.

I had intended to paint my doors next, but mockup took longer than expected so I decided to do my front fenders in the meantime. Fenders were blasted and then epoxied.

Ran across a service sticker on the door, kind of cool to just be able to make it out, oil change and lube at 16,397 miles on August 10 1974.

Fenders have been cleared. Blocked them down twice last week, sprayed sealer and base yesterday, and got to clear today. I plan on letting them sit for a few days then blocking any issues out and giving another round of clear this weekend. Taking my doors to be blasted tomorrow, hope to have them in epoxy this weekend as well since its a long weekend.

Pretty happy how these turned out, getting my gun and gun technique dialed in.

damn nice job so far! looks awesome. I just went from your start to here, very impressed. I too did similar and went the LS route also, but i did have a or question for you. When i bought my LS i bought used and it was either a 4.8 or 5.3. i asked how to tell the difference and i found that just about everyone says unless you know the vehicle it came from, you take the heads off and if the pistons are flattop with a small dimple, it is a 4.8, if they are dished a small bit it is a 5.3. I got mine, opened it up and it was a 4.8. so i bought a kit from WS6Store for a 5.3 but with true flattop pistons like the 4.8's and then a crank and rods for a 5.3. I only bring this up because the pic of of the motor early on shows the flattop pistons like in a 4.8 stock but you called it a 5.3. I just know i was surprised with mine, hoping yours is truely a 5.3.

Got my doors back from being blasted and started prepping them tonight. Had to make room in the booth so I decided to just hang my fenders on the truck to get them out of the way for the time being. I needed a little inspiration as well.

Had a nice little vacation to the black hills, then back to bodywork. I've been mainly working on the doors, got them through two rounds of blocking, sealed and based. Clear tomorrow pending a slight problem I had, but I think it will be alright. Cut and buff on the fenders, only 1/4 of the way done but its going to look good. Bodywork is a lot of work, I was absolutely shot today when I got home.

i have a goofy curious question. what's the bucket with the trash bag in it with the compressor hose going into it for???

Its a trash can I have in the booth to throw trash in. I usually just hang my air hose over it when I uncouple it from my gun, I have a gun stand right above it in the corner.

Over the last few weeks Ive kind of finished up this round of body work and painting, it included the fenders, doors, inner fenders, a bunch of misc. pieces. I wasnt happy with my fenders after they were buffed, I had some urethane wave. So those were cut down with 320 and re-cleared, they turned out great before buffing. The doors then went through there second round of clear. All of that has been wet sanded, and sat in the sun today to shrink, Ill probably start buffing now. I also got my inner fenders sprayed in epoxy, Im really happy with how they turned out. I have a hard time getting epoxy to lay good with out trash in it and these came out great.

Ive started wiring the last couple days. I have my engine harness routed and started hooking it up. The under dash harness is routed. A long ways to go on it but Im excited to work on wiring, its something Ive always enjoyed.

I really like this blue, especially when its outside. I cant wait to see the whole thing together sitting outside, Im hopeful for a late fall semi complete shake down run.
