How much is a clutch? Seeing how you have it torn apart, you might as well replace it with the correct clutch so you know what you have.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

They are $109 for the whole clutch, but as I have told you it is the exact same one that I have currently. I have narrowed it down to not getting enough stroke out of my current setup. My clutch is not in bad shape so I am just going to leave it alone and try to figure out how to get the stroke I need. I may have to move to a smaller bore slave.

Are you going to try to lengthen your rod on your slave first?

Yeah I was going to suggest that. I'll try to find the thread where someone did a pretty clean job of it.

Yes before I go modifying everything else I am going to try to lengthen the rod and see if that will work. If it doesn't than I will have to find a way to get more movement out of the slave.

That would be awesome if you could find that thread. I have the idea of using the old rod off of the mechanical linkage because it is a 3/8 bolt. Im just not sure how to go about making the adjustment part.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Well I went ahead and bought a new clutch pack for the truck and then put the transmission back into the truck. Turns out it worked the first time, I am not sure why it would not work with the old clutch pack, but it now works. Hopefully it will continue to work.

You don't know how irritated i was getting with this thing, i kept looking at the fuel tank and lighter. I was going to burn it down, but decided just to put it back together to see what would happen.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Well today I went to start the truck and it started cranking really slowly and then i tried it again it the starter motor burnt up. So $170 later I got a new starter in the truck and it starts like a dream! I think the old starter was on its last bit and I finally killed it, every once in a while it would turn the engine over very slowly and was hard to start and other times it would turn the motor good. But now it burnt up and the new starter runs like a champ.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

I've decided to keep the project, so I dove back into it again yesterday. First thing was fixing my steering box. It blew a seal and so i fixed that but for some reason the seal has already popped again so I am going to just get a new steering box.

I also have decided that 6 tires is just to much. So I took the bed off and slapped some singles on the back. Yes I am using a dually axle with singles on it, the rear tires I believe the rear axle is 3 inches total wider than the front, so about 1.5 on each side. I dont like how the rear tires tuck under the bed and the front ones stick out so this should hopefully stick them out and make it look better in my opinion. I dropped my good SRW long bed, but I am going to see if I cant bend the parts that are folded in close to where they need to be for now and then maybe find a whole new bed or a good bed side.

I was out seeing if I could tell a difference with the singles. I guess it helps not having the bed on so it road smoother and I decided to do some flexing.

So sunday I am hoping to get a new steering box and get the bed on. Then put my dynamat in the truck and get some heat in it finally.

It was under 20 degrees. But for some reason I wasnt cold just wearing a jacket, I guess fighting a bed for 2 hours warms you up pretty good! haha

Couldnt let you have all the fun working on your crew cab. I agree man I do need some lift. But I am going to get it to a drivable state before I worry about that. A guy I know that has about 30 of these trucks and parts them out is going to look at a burb tomorrow that is said to have a good red interior. It even has bucket seats. So if he picks that burb up I might just be getting me a interior. Red wont be what I want, but if I can get it for the right price it will work till I can afford to put money into it.

I already like it. As you know I wanted a SRW long bed crew cab when I bought the first one and I have done a complete 360 in my planning. I really think I will like it. The dually was cool, but srw will work best for me.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Well I got some stuff done today. I did not end up getting a steering box today and it wont be in till Tuesday so the truck is not drivable right now. I did get the SRW box on today. Its not great but for now it is a bed and it will work.

And if you are wondering how it looks with singles on a Dana 70 HD dually axle here is a picture.

As you can see I believe it sticks out about 1.5 inches. It kind of looks weird, but I think when I lift the truck 6 inches and put some 37s under it the big meats will look good on there.

Tuck looks good, IMO it will look great with fat meats under'er. Ever time I see a truck with stock tires it looks like the rear end is narrower than the front.

Thanks man! Yeah I think it will look great setting on some 37x12.5x16.5 inch tires. As for the stock tires, yeah the single rear wheel axles are not as wide as the fronts. That is why I kept the dually axle under the rear, its Wheel mounting surface (WMS) to WMS is 3 inchs wider so i think it looks better with the wider rear.

Yeah I want to find a DRW D60 just so I can do that same thing. But I also have some cool 16.5in wagon wheels that I think would look cool on this truck.
