Glad you like the coils. (Right now they are the only thing on the frame that does have paint on it) They came that color from CPP but the rears were dark blue/gray. ??? One would think that matched springs would actually match?!?!

Re: What I did today...
A friend of mine was helping me bleed the brakes on one of my 4-5-6 Chevy truck projects one time and I was getting frustrated...he told me something that really helps me put things into perspective. He said "remember you like to work on your truck for the fun of it", so when you get frustrated, aggravated, depressed or lack motivation, step back, take a long look, a deep breath and reminisce about all the enjoyment it has brought you or will bring you in the future. By doing so, it puts the fun back into the process.
Nice work, so far, and keep it rolling...you will be hitting Sonic in your truck for a malt, before you know it. Good luck and keep us motivated with your progress pictures. |

Re: What I did today...
Actually, I am not the author of that saying however, it goes like this:
"Inch by inch, life is a cinch, yard by yard, life is hard" This quote is from a person to their loved-one, who is stricken with cancer. My other favorite is: "Doing a common thing, uncommonly well, leads to success" That is from the Heinz ketchup mogul and can be found on the back of most ketchup bottles in many restaurants. I like it because it applies to the things we do on our trucks... Last edited by LILRED66; 05-03-2009 at 01:42 AM. |

Re: What I did today...
Well, there's nothing much to talk about on the '64 but thought I would post up what I had been doing for a while.
The end of last month, took the family out to see some relatives in Oklahoma and went to the OKC Meet while we were there. Those are a great group of folks out there. Really enjoyed meeting everyone and seeing the trucks in person. Not gonna post pics but if anyone is interested, check out the link in Joe231's sig. Several folks posted some nice pics from the meet. While we were in OK, I stopped by Scotts' house and saw Joes' cab lift in action. I had to have one of those! It was so much better than the 4x4 (and luck) that I used to remove my '64 cab with. I spoke with Joe about it and a deal was struck. (Thanks Joe!!) Since I got back from out there, I worked 3 shifts and am now in the middle of a 2 week furlough. Spent some time cleaing up a little in my shop, trying to organize a little bit, spent a couple days doing family stuff and then hauled off what was left of an old dually that I had around. Now to the truck stuff--I had planned on working on my '64 while I am off but decided that I needed a useable truck in the meantime. I have a '65 longbed that has been a back burner item for a loooong time. It runs and drives but the springs have been heated(rides like crap!), the brakes suck and it needs some attention to be a dependable driver. Here's some pics of the cab lift in action, but not on a cab. If you notice in the pics, this was all done in the grass so I couldn't use the lift exactly as was intended. I used it from the rear because the truck had to be able to move out from under the bed once it had been lifted up. Using it like this caused it to be way offcenter and not balanced at all. Sssoooo, what to do, what to do??? The way it worked out was I lowered the tailgate and wedged it between the lift and the bed. This allowed the bed to lift up fairly level and it didn't damage the tailgate. I wouldn't recommend doing it exactly like this because I wasn't sure what the affect would be on the tailgate, but I was by myself, the bed was loose and slid back, so it was either "blow or go" as far as I was concerned. It all worked out well. And here's the truck without the bed... I pulled the bed with the intent of replacing the heated springs with the drop springs from my '64, cleaning things up a bit and redoing the brakes or swapping to a 5 lug. Now that the bed is removed, I can't decide whether I want to redo the 6 lug drums or replace with the 5 lug rear and front disc setup that I have from a '71. Either way will cost about the same as both setups need to be rebuilt and I will have to get a master cylinder too. I have a set of 5 lug rallys that I can run if I go 5 lug. If I keep it 6 lug, I can run the rims like the one in the pic on the left rear (I have the center caps too) or pick up a set of 20's from my b-in-law(not too sure about this idea though). Not sure what I should do?!?!?

Re: What I did today...
Hey Tim, is that factory paint? I never thought about where the side stripe ended until I saw that pic.
What size are your 6-lug wheels? I was going to suggest for a driver to use the wheels with the cheapest tires, usually 15's IMO. I think ralleys look great on these trucks......my.02

Kinda leaning in the 5 lug direction for discs but I could always use 6 lug discs(and wouldn't have to swap the rearend). Decisions, decisions...

Re: What I did today...
I'm baaaaaaacccckkkk!!!!
We closed on the house a couple of weeks ago, got moved in and semi-settled. Still have to do ALL of the landscaping though. Nvm about that, let's talk trucks! I started swapping the longbed's rear for a 5 lugger about 4-5 months ago. Finally got back to it today. The 4" drop springs are in, the brakes are on and it is sitting on the ground again. I still need to replace the wheel cylinders and the flex line that attaches the hard lines. May wait just a little while on doing the front swap to discs. I want to drive it some. It's been too long! As for the '64, I have walked by and looked at it a few times recently. Right now I am pondering on exactly how I am going to make the stock frame stands work(shouldn't be too bad with a little cutting, welding and time). I have a few other thoughts, just have to wait and see what I decide to do. I need to get back on it soon, one way or another... Anyway, that's where I'm at for the moment. Hope to start hanging out on here again some...
