Re: My 63 farm truck build thread

Ive had that in mind over the winter to do a spare tire mount. Thats the cats ass. I also got a old army style gas can that I have thought about mounting on the other side just for looks.

The spare bracket is cool, but the threaded lug wrench is the topper! Another in a long list of clever innovations. And I can't think of anything more inconvenient to try and store in a vehicle. Very cool.

Great work there! I really like the 4way idea. Very clever.

I think it needs a black (or stock color) powder coated wheel on there. Wheels aren't supposed to be rusty! Still looks good though.

All right, pictures from the side showing the spare tire....

You fellas got to cut me some slack on the rusty spare wheel though. I'm working full time powdercoating parts, plus I just started restoring an antique wagon for my swap meet duties...

I'm thinking about it. Seriously. I've been doing the research on drop members and all of that. Only thing is I refuse to cut my bed floor. I might raise it some, but no monster bridges or any of that. This is a truck to me. I hauled 500 pounds of material from the steel yard to the shop today. I couldn't do that if I cut the bed.

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread

To me, the spare tire in the bed just adds to the shop truck effect. I also like CWT's idea of a gas can. Gives the impression that this is the truck that comes to the rescue.

Diggin' it.

Wait till I build the overhead bed rack. I need to carry long lengths of steel without having to drag my trailer to the steel yard.

If you're gonna do it low, I'd love to see you do it ol' school and section a X-member. Always cool stuff and excellent work you do on this truck, either way.

I agree 100%. I like the look of the slammed trucks, but hate the look of the cut up bed with either the bridge, or just open. I like your truck where it sits. A little low, but still 100% functional. Keep up the great work. The truck is becoming very photogenic.

If you build it with the same look as the rest of the project it should look killer.

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread

I'm trying to figure out Google Sketchup right now to start designing the overhead rack. I know racks aren't cool, but this truck is what I use to haul my steel home from the steel yard. I'm trying to make it look vintage though.

Fabricate it w/removal in mind? That way, if desired the rack can be removed. Just a thought....

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread

It will be fairly substantial. I'm taking blacksmith classes so I find myself buying and moving a lot more long lengths of steel. I will do something vintage though,no worry about that.

Google sketchup is hard to figure out though. I'm working on it.

Yes,very cool truck,Got my vote in for it
You never know Kevin, make that rack cool enough and it might become the next "have to have" item in the shop truck craze that we seemed to be blessed with lately.
Love it!
