Re: Project Ru5tyNut5

been sanding on one of my free fenders I got the last couple days, I think I'm going to play with it a bit and see if I can learn anything about making it prettier. I'm a lot more comfortable with my welder in my hand than I am with anything bodywork related so this could get ugly.

Re: Project Ru5tyNut5

dang, I keep remembering more stuff. I was in Northwest Lowriders trophy run today in vancouver and got a trophy for..............................................wait for it..................
.................................................................................................... ...............................................................Lowest Rear End. hmmm, I guess I did have the lowest rear end, never thought I get a trophy for dragging ass. there weren't many lowriders there considering it was put on by "Northwest Lowriders", and the ones that were there weren't part of that club. I was confused by it but whatever. I have a few pics of the actual lowriders that were there, 2 nissan trucks, a '68 Impala, and an old Ranchero....the rest were traditional hotrods and whatnot.

all the old people were pretty entertained by the nissans taking turns going in circles hitting 3 wheel.

Re: Project Ru5tyNut5

I know it's hard to tell since the car is torn apart, but it's a complete car minus glass. it came with a 235ci that needs rebuilt, a Saginaw 3 speed tranny, and a Ford 9 inch rear end. I know it's not a chevy truck but I may sneak some pics of it's build in here and there, same thing goes with the Triumph bobber.

Re: Project Ru5tyNut5

makin more moves, I got another project that will be what I'm rolling next summer for you local guys that I met at various shows and whatnot last year. doin bodywork for now, this is what she is.....
shaved the hood ornament and Pontiac badge

shaved door handles

beautiful dash

shaved gas filler door, and if you know what the back of a '55 Pontiac looks like you'll know that there is nothing stock about the rear lights and whatnot.

Re: Project Ru5tyNut5

thinking about getting an '88-'98 SWB to add to my list of projects, does anyone know if they have the same issues as far as getting them to lay out because of the front crossmember?

I really love the truck man. Keep up the progress. On the white walls... How did you do them? Do you need to start with tires with the white stripe?

start with any whitewall tire or tire with raised white letters, get yourself a 40 grit flapper wheel, and start grinding. I started on the existing whitewall and worked toward the tread until I found the edge of the white rubber and then just follow that line around the hole tire. you can work both ways from the white stripe, both toward the tread and toward the wheel, I only went from the whitewall out, the inside line is the original inside line from when it was a skinny whitewall. you can probably search "make your own wide whitewall" or something like that on youtube and find a video showing you how.

so I've been driving my rust bucket as a daily driver for quite awhile now so haven't really done anything to it since last summer, butttt......I'm going to finish the few things I have left to do to get my '55 Pontiac going and then start driving it and the truck is going in the garage to go under the knife. at least for now the plan is to pull the motor, trans, and the whole body and make a bunch of changes to the frame. once I'm done with that I'll look for a donor truck for body panels with a bit fewer rust holes. for you local guys, I might have my truck around for the very beginning of summer but idealy it will be down by the time the shows start and I'll be rolling my Poncho for the summer. so, get ready for the thread to be a lot more active once I get started on the trucks transformation.

Thanks for the tire info. I've never see those kinds of tail lights. Are they custom or what?

Re: Project Ru5tyNut5

Oh yea, I forgot to mention yesterday...this whole thread was started because I was getting a '65 to add to my collection and was going to start building it, that plan got side tracked and I ended up posted about my '76 in the 60-66 section as you can see. well, I'm planning to get this thread back on track as I think I'm picking up a '66 this weekend. it's a deal I don't think I can pass up although I haven't paid for it yet so it's not 100%....I'll definately be posting pics and whatnot as soon as I pick her up.
