Re: "Outkast"
thanks str8 and superfly
el campo I'm keeping the antique plates, around here they don't mess with it really at all, I guess if they did I'd just get creative and come up with something, it's definitely going to be a driver, won't get many miles a day but it will be getting some |

Re: "Outkast"
Not sure what the laws are in Texes, but in Ohio you can only drive a 'historical' plate vehical in parades and to club functions. Guys get away with a lot more, though... I was told by a deputy sherrif that your only allowed 2500 miles a year on the vehical. Again, that's Ohio. Don't know about Texas.

Re: "Outkast"
I really really dont want to put regular tags on my truck either because they cost more and you have to have inspection. I have read all the fine print from the DOT trying to get around putting a parking brake in my 72. I have antiques on my other all original 72. The reason why I say is because according to the DOT in Texas in order to have antique plates you must only drive the vehicle (over 25 years old) to special functions, parades and to repair shop for maintenance. Cannot drive over 1500 miles a year. And (most irritating to us all) must have the original chassis and engine. Now I loathe the highway patrol and DOT more than ANYONE on this planet I swear but signing your name on the paper that your vehicle falls into that category when it doesn't is a felony. Just would hate to have anyone on here get busted for some stupid law.

WOW even the interior is sexy! I love your split bench with flip down cup holders. Did you get that made locally or did you find that bench somewhere else?

I actually found it online, it's a "RodDoors" seat, if you google it they have about 15 or so different styles, benches and buckets

Re: "Outkast"
By the way, the truck does look great. I love the bench seat as well. I'll have to look into that when I'm ready for a seat. The interior is going to make the truck.

Re: "Outkast"
El Campo, antique plates are perfectly legal in Texas. From the dot website:
Model Year Plates Have the original, model year plates for a vehicle? As long as they're Texas-issued, have the proper color, and are in a usable condition, you may apply to use them by completing either the classic or the antique vehicle form, whichever fits the situation. Bring the form and plates with you to your county tax office, where the plates will be inspected for suitability of use. It costs $10 annually to display the plates, although local extra fees may be added.. That is why you see so many old plates at swap meets. Cool idea! Ok, I just read your second post. That's a bummer Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device Last edited by Big-Blue; 06-16-2012 at 05:18 PM. |

Re: "Outkast"
thanks guys, I was hoping to have the door panels installed for that show but the upholsterer didn't quite get them done, they are factory panels covered in the the same ultra leather as the seat, also, the speaker box behind the seat will be covered with the same material, had a little problem with clearances(valve covers and air cleaner) so it pushed the build back a few weeks, hopefully they'll have it all straightened out pretty soon, they are telling me 2 months so I'm hoping even if we have another hiccup I'll have this thing at Good-Guys in October

Re: "Outkast"
Your truck looks killer man! love everything about it! How do you think the 2 piece drive shaft will hold up to that kind of power? I've been wondering this myself as I want to run a high HP motor with front and rear dropmember's but i don't want to tunnel the cab for the 1 piece drive shaft.

Re: "Outkast"
bcutt I talked to Nate about the motor before I switched to a big block, he didn't seem to think there would be any problem, other people are running high horse motors with the dropmember and 2 piece drive shaft, I'm going to try to find the strongest custom made shaft I can though
