Thank you:
Kim57
BaldeagleSR
Lowrodderchev

for all the great compliments.

I finally seen one of the boards of the bed wood done today and they are coming out like GLASS. I am soo excited to get it almost done. well, until I change something, kinda done. LOL
My wife laughs at me because I wipe it down almost every night.

Re: My 1958 Fleetside project

Ok, sooooo....

Here are a few pics of the bed strips and wood installed.
I am not finished installing all the bolts yet and still need a few small pieces of stainless strips too put in.

Tell me what you think:

More pics a little later this week after I detail the engine compartment.

Thank you Kim, BaldeagleSR, Nev68,

BaldeagleSR the wood is red gum eucalyptus with just a clear coat on it. Well actually 4 coats of Man O War, then sanded and buffed.

Thanks for the info. The bed looks like it belongs in the living room instead of the driveway.

Re: My 1958 Fleetside project

Don't know, first time you get a load of steer manure it will not be so shiny! But guessing you won't be hauling much. As a woodworker I really appreciate that finish, I have never been brave enough to try something with that much gloss. Looks great.

Do you seal the bottom side too? Or does the wood have to breath? Thanks Rich

Yes sir, bottom is sealed with 3 coats. Although not sanded. Lol

Pipty6, the hubcaps are full caps from a 53 Chevy car and are 15", they slipped right onto my 78 steel wheels.

Re: My 1958 Fleetside project

well, in the time since my last post I have finished mounting the stainless strips along the inside of the bed. I have also finished mounting the inner wheel wells in the bed.
Last week I managed to replace my power steering box and re-routed the lines and replaced with stainless braided (at least the pressure side). I am still trying to find a thermostat housing leak that just trickles a little here and there. I think it might be the new style gaskets that they sell. I really miss the older style fel pro gaskets that seemed to work until you pulled the housing off.

Re: My 1958 Fleetside project

little bead of rtv on each side usually seals them up unless the tstat housing is really warped. I always use old school cast iron, had two aluminum/pot metal ones warp on me.

Here ya go Lowrodderchev, as you can see the seat still needs to be reupholstered so I am running this seat cover I picked up cheap on ebay. It works for me for now

I finally mounted the sun visor after I took the pictures LOL

Here are a couple of the engine compartment after I got done detailing it for an upcoming show in Covina, Ca. this coming saturday.
