Re: Shreck's 6.0 build
Thanks guys, actually I found that in the plumbing isle next to the HVAC stuff, I was origionally looking for something with rain gutter or tubing that had a 4" bore that I may be able to trim down and saw this. Stumbled on this after about 10 min in the store actually so I got away easy here...
I should have my O2 sensors in by Friday, this Tues/Wed will have everything ready to go

Re: Shreck's 6.0 build
Not much to update, but I did end up ordering 2 O2 sensors from Rockauto on Friday morning. Paid a total of $50 less overall than one of the largest parts suppliers on the west coast for the 2 same sensors Nice place to deal with too, they found a new customer.
I am happy, but even happier if they would have arrived Sat but they didn't so this will have to wait until Monday/Tuesday. I am getting pretty antsy to drive it for the first time, it will be a awesome moment for me

Re: Shreck's 6.0 build
Progress, not a very exciting picture but for me it is...
The new O2 sensors arrived today, but too late to do anything about it Tomorrow morning the truck will be towed to the exhaust shop and the project hopefully done to the point I can start driving it. Plan on taking it's maiden voyage from the shop to home, son will be following me with the family cruiser just in case something goes wrong. I'm very excited, feels good.

OK, flatbed is on the way here to take it to the shop, I will take a few pictures and post back when I get a chance in a while.
Little nervous right now, maiden voyage and not from home... Off I go

Re: Shreck's 6.0 build
I'm back, sounds very good now Very happy, but it does not run real good.
Plugged the O2 sensors in at the shop, and a min or so later the engine started running very rich belching out black smoke at all rpm's. I had to unplug them to drive it home. And it stalls at lights too, so what I am doing now is taking the pos batt cable off for about 15 min, plugging everything back in and doing a re learn. Hope this works, if not I have more homework to do.

Re: Shreck's 6.0 build
Looks like I may have the wrong O2 sensors. From what I have been reading for the year harness I have works 2 types, case ground and isolated ground. I have what I believe is case ground sensor harness, has 1ppl, 1 tan, one green/w and one green. The sensors I have has 1 white, 1 blue and 2 black, and the info online for isolated ground sensors use a pink and black wire which I do not have but nor does the sensor so I need to do more homework. Back to square 1, kinda.
So, I need to pay a visit to the dealer tomorrow and see what the differences are and get a part number. This may get expensive

Forgot pics, these are from the shop. Few of the truck on the lift, and a couple from the bottom looking up. Keep in mind this is a driver, no show truck

Re: Shreck's 6.0 build
You may have already asked, but have you posted this delimma over on the LS engine forum in the drivetrain area? I'm sure you will get it fugured out, probably something simple. good luck!

Re: Shreck's 6.0 build
No I have not asked yet, suppose I should if I can't get this right.
Cross referenced this sensor with the GM part number and it is correct. So, this being the case something is wrong with either the sensors themselves or I have to get back into the harness and trace them all and see if anything pops out at me. The GM part number is 12565397 (ACDelco 213-939) and the Denso number I have is 234-4103. All part numbers call for my application.

Re: Shreck's 6.0 build
Have a buddy with a scanner? All I can think is, it would be nice to see what readings the computer is seeing from the O2's, MAF, IAT and Temp sensors. And whatever codes its throwing...

Re: Shreck's 6.0 build
Did a little more work on the truck before coming in to work tonight, made some good progress.
This morning when I got up, went out and started it up and it was only running on what I think was 6cyl, pretty bad miss. I traced this back to the number 6 and 8 injectors not getting power at the pink wire when the key was on. Checked the fuses, yup one was blown, it controlled those injectors and also the O2 power wires. Humm. That would explain when I plugged the O2 sensors back in the engine did not seem to mind. Well, after replacing the fuse I have power at the injectors and O2's again and we are good to go nice and smooth. But plugging both sensors back in results in black smoke, but when I unplug one it cleans up and will run good so I have just the one plugged in for now (either side does not matter). I was still getting an SES light though, but after taking a quick trip to the gas station it went out. Another humm. So, Sat I will dive into the harness and see what is going on there but overall it runs better and also quit stalling at a stop. The plugs are clean and white, the exhaust smells good, and it idles so smooth you cant even feel it's running. I'm getting happier with this, good power and anywhere near full throttle in a first gear roll it lights 'em up

Re: Shreck's 6.0 build
Drove it a little more today, SES light came back on and I think it's running in closed loop? Or open, can't remember the difference.
Runs good though overall, great power for stock, lots of low/mid range torque and really smooth almost fluid feeling compared to the GEN1 engine that it replaced. Tomorrow I will dive into the harness ans see what's going on. If I find nothing I will have to contact my tuner.

Re: Shreck's 6.0 build
Thanks man, just want to tell/show everything that I am going through for the first time with something like this. I'm not embarrassed to admit my green side and mistakes that come with it. I feel so far it has been a great success, I found myself tackling things I would not have dreamed of 6 months ago. I won't rest though until it's right so I hope everyone does not mind the continued posing while I try to figure this all out.
