Re: 71 Cheyenne Super- A Combined Effort
It was a busy weekend around here! Geoff and I decided it was time to bolt all the parts for the Super together and see if someone else would be interested in taking over this project. Doing this in 100+ degree heat was an experience too! Luckily, we drank a lot of Gatorade and water!
Here is how everything went down: Here was our setup on Saturday morning...funny story, I saw the cherry picker at a yard sale last weekend for $40. The seller talked me down to $20. I didn't have room for it, so I called up a fellow gearhead and he picked it up. Him and I swap pressure washers, tow dollies, tools, etc... so adding a cherry picker to the mix wasn't a big deal. Ha, ha. Geoff had the great idea of lowering the frame by deflating the tires: I worked on the passenger side cab corner (cut it at the body line this time): ...while Geoff bolted the doors and front clip on: We then bolted the bed together: ...and put some of the interior back in: We even dropped a mystery motor in it. Maybe someone can identify it for us? I know it is domestic, but have no idea if it is a small block or big block? I tried to close the hood, but there was no clearance. . . . . . . . . It was a fun project and Geoff and I both have learned a lot along the way.

I'm guessing after a long day that engine was pretty tired
So...is it listed for sale already?

Re: 71 Cheyenne Super- A Combined Effort
This could totally be a low budget build....add your drivetrain, steering column, fuel/ brake lines, a little wiring, tighten up all the body bolts, alignment, and you got yourself a driver/ rolling resto

Re: 71 Cheyenne Super- A Combined Effort
I got a quick question on the panel alignment on the bed. How good do the body lines match up after cutting the bed pieces out? I'm thinking of going this route cause short bed fleets are getting harder to find. I;m worried about the aft body line not looking right. Did you have to do alot of messaging, or filler to get it right?

Re: 71 Cheyenne Super- A Combined Effort
The only other thing I would add is that instead of only using the screwdriver trick to align the panels, I preferred working both edges with a hammer and dolly to get the curvature the same prior to welding. We still used the screwdriver to get them perfect, but the prep work with a hammer and dolly ensured they matched 95%.
