Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
Not much of a update, but my motor turned up this week .
I will put up the specs later, but its a 383 stroker with just under 500hp. Here are a couple of photos. I will get some more photos when i put the front tru track system on and finish bolting it all up.

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
Thanks fellas,
I had to test fit the motor. I thought the electric fan i mounted wouldn't fit, since i have changed to a long water pump. and with the old set up the power steering pump was very close to the box. Everything turned out perfect but i have have to modify the fire wall a little bit for the distributor . Installed all the accessories on the front and it went together soooo easy and turned out micky mouse i loooove it. And just a workshop photo as always.

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
Looking good. They motor looks like a great fit. I like how it follows the indentation of the fire wall. The high rise intake is a nice touch as well. These truck have SO much head space under the hood.
Keep it up. Marc

Must be a down under thing. In America we don't like anything to do with our trucks to be "micky mouse". It's not a complement. Nice work on the truck. It's looking real good. |

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
Great build ,can't wait to see updates, do you have any pics of the rear frame notch build process? how deep is the notch? that is the smoothest I've ever seen done.

Thanks, i have pics somewhere but i had a computer failure and cant find a few pictures. I didn't do the notch myself as its no critical and so easy to mess up. Here is Australia, notch's are VERY frowned a pone by the engineers and registration people. There is no way to get a truck registered with the pipe notches or anything other then a well done square step notch or a flow C notch. My main goal of this truck is to be pulled up by police and be sent on my way with no tickets or fines. I tried to make the notch look like it was a factory bend in the frame. and as for depth it is custom laser cut. We bagged the front and it layed out on the front cross member then measured how big the notch would have to be to get the back to sit level with the front. I really really disagree with some of the notches put in these trucks, they are so weak and dangerous, one hit up the ass and the back of the truck would fold in half. Have alook at this link for the strength -http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=457037 And that is without gussets and the notch blending in to the old frame.

It seems strange to me that the authorities are so strict about the safety of rear suspension notches, considering that they let everyone swim out there in shark infested water. Anyway, your truck looks great and it sure looks as though it's built plenty strong.

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
i have to agree with you fat56, some of the notches and general frame work i see on this and other forums scares me.
that's a good link you posted for ''frame notch based on strength'' i usually just chose to not comment on it unless i fear for the life of the poster i'm a structural engineer when i did my c-notch i added structure over the c-notch and boxed the inside. since i'm still on stock springs in back there is a lot of stress on my c-notch from the rear spring hanger. someone on a 4 link with all the suspension located in front of the notch only needs to support the bed

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
I guess you could always think of the weak c-notch as a crumple-zone. In case of a rear end collision it would lessen the impact on the occupants of the cab. Or maybe not, LOL.

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
Ogre i could not agree with you more on the "i usually just chose to not comment on it unless i fear for the life of the poster" comment. And i like your notch its got alot of meat above the tube. Do you have to get a vehicle inspection to get a car/truck registered over there?
In a rear end collision i am in trouble anyway, i have my fuel tank back there. lol. I put a big 3mm wall tube across the back just incase, it might buy me a couple of Millimetres in a crash. Call me picky but there was a little something on my motor that was getting to me, so i had to change it. Before After
