Re: Build: I've never done bodywork...but I can change if I have to! (bagged '67 SWB
well had another long day, got some stuff done, but always seems like its never enough.
wired in the dome light, painted a bunch of black things, like heater box, rad support (which i had to fix for 2 hours before paint), hood hinges, filler panel below rad support. also wet sanded my driver door again (didn't do good enough the first time), well I wet sanded it twice, first with 1200, then with 2000, then compound buff, then polish, so really I have visited these panels quite often... I think we are on first name basis already! I hesitated putting on the passenger door as I don't wanna have troubles putting the seat in, so for now it will have to do looking like a UPS truck. had some progress with the bed, put all the wood on, drilled all the holes and fit it all, then went in and hacked it all up so the tubs and tires would fit and cut a hole for the pumpkin to peek through.

Re: Build: I've never done bodywork...but I can change if I have to! (bagged '67 SWB
well had some reasonable progress this last few days..
stained and urathaned the oak floor to a nice cherrywood colour, the texture looks a bit rough here, thats because I took the photo before the final sanding and then coated it again twice for a nice smooth finish. here I am working on the wheel tubs/compartment for battery and accuair. here is where I was explaining how I bend the sheets to the right fit, I simply tack it all up and just roll it and tack it slowly as I roll it, then weld in supports after I have the shape.

Re: Build: I've never done bodywork...but I can change if I have to! (bagged '67 SWB
and here it is all finished! (and functioning) just doing up some filler on the welds for a nice finish. the lid does close flush, I just dont have the fastening bolts installed inthe photo to pull it snug.
I was gonna put gas struts on it, but decided not to, as I don't think this thing is really gonna be open that often, it's plenty strong without any supports, I'll just put a towel down when I do have it open so the lid doesn't get scratched by the floor when it is all the way open, as it can swing wide open. and here are the bed sides...finally painted up!

Nice work, amazing actually. I was wondering how the tub would turn out and that is way above what I thought it was going to look like.

the rear tub hatch looks badass, gunna make things even easier.
great idea keeping everything accessable and bolt on. keeping alot of stock components with a twist

You could always do a selt belt style material strap that won't let it rest all the way down when you need in there. That way you don't have to worry about putting a towel down.

well had been working on it hard the last little bit, got the box all together and put on installed the instrument cluster (temporarily), did the wiring in the engine area, added some fuel and... hit a major milestone at about 11:59 the other night, I got to hear it run for the first time! wowzers!! she is loud without mufflers on, just coming off the headers, and boy is that engine lumpy, shakes the whole truck at idle like a top fuel car (mind you the no exhaust adds more emphasis) was so nervous about putting that tub in, just being on piece, it had such little margin for error on the width, but it just fit right on the money. was so nice to hear it actually run!

Looks great. I am impressed that you never had done any body work before yet your results are amazing. Also, congratulations to getting her running! that is so much fun after a rebuild and wiring to hear them fire up.

Re: Build: I've never done bodywork...but I can change if I have to! (bagged '67 SWB
well I ended up selling the truck, one day I was frustrated that it was in my way in the shop, and put it up for sale, it ended up selling the next day.. sold it for about .35 cents on the dollar - just in new parts alone. zero for my labour.
obviously I regretted it later, especially since I was so close to getting it finished. but currently I am working on a 66 mustang and a 67 nova, so hopefully I don't get annoyed with those ones as they are a long way away from completion (just picked them up!) I will try calling the young guy I sold it to, he must have finished it as he said it was going straight to a custom shop to get it finished off.. mind you that was a few years ago now..
