That's exactly what I had to do to my rockers, and the same thing on the cab corner/rocker junction. I welded mine up, no filler on it yet or any finish work of any sort, but I really like the way it looks, glad I went that direction.

Actually you're one of the people I seen that did that and I liked the way it looked too.

Well I was off work today so I decided to chop up the drivers side and see what I had in store for me. Pretty much the same as the passenger side, but I won't be replacing the upper cab corner. Time to order some repair parts. I already have the rocker and cab corner, but looks like I will need the inner rocker, front and rear patch pieces for the pillars, and the front piece for the floor. The supports underneath look ok and I didn't worry about supporting the pillar before cutting all this out. It's not really necessary as I found out on the passenger side. Here's some pics of the nasty.

Whole bunch of fun! But at least you have the harder side out of the way! I ended up not having to use the "inner rocker" replacement, the floor pieces i used had a ton of extra folded down the side, so they served the same purpose, just an FYI. I still have those if you need them and you'd be interested, but they're so cheap I bet it'd still be cheaper just to add to an existing order your making time I shipped them.

Lookin forward to seein some more great sheetmetal repair!

Thanks man, I appreciate the offer, but yeah would cost more to ship than their worth! I decided to save $10 and just cut a piece from a sheet of 16 gauge I have here, from what I see they don't come with the drip holes in the so I'll have to get creative to make those. I ordered up the floor piece again (ugh!), the front and rear pillar patches and the kick panel all from LMC since it all worked out okay for the passenger side, except the floor piece, but I couldn't find that anywhere else. Everything else I'll just patch up from the steel I have here or from pieces from the other cab.

Finally got around to finishing up the drivers side. I had made a crucial mistake by welding in the rocker without checking it against a hung door... man I won't do that again EVER. So I had to cut the rocker back out and redo it... I was able to salvage it, but it took some delicate surgical cutting to get it out without ruining it. Thankfully I had not welded it to the inner rocker/floor piece. I knew better, but just got in a hurry. Anyway.. I replaced both pillar bottoms, part of the floor, part of the inner rocker, kick panel, rocker and cab corner for this side. I have one small repair to the top of the drivers door seal left and another small repair to the roof, then I'm going to move on to doing the undercoat on the floor, still haven't decided what to use on that yet.. bedliner or actual undercoating.

Don't feel too bad my friend I did the same thing. I couldn't wait to see it on the truck and like you I knew better.

I finally got to the underneath of the cab and have a little cleaning up to do, but should get it covered this weekend. I decided to go ahead and go with Herculiner instead of trying something else, I've used it on a couple different Jeep tubs and I just can't imagine anything holding up better than it has.

Here's where the cab is now. Little grinding to do, then I can spray the Herc.

The undercoating is done.

Here's all the stuff I used.



First I washed it all up with some Eastwood Fast Etch & Metal Prep and then used Eastewood's PRE to wipe it down. I let it all soak into the seams and air dry with a fan on it overnight. I then used 3M Seam Sealer and sealed up anywhere I had done welding or had gaps.

I also welded up the gas line holes.... so it's now official -- I won't be putting a tank back into the cab. :-)

After the Prep & PRE

I stuff cotton into all the holes where bolts went so I didn't accidentally get Herculiner into them then I laid down the first coat with a brush because I wanted to make sure I had enough Herculiner and also that I was able to get it into places the spray gun wouldn't fit. Also I broke out my headlamp so I could make absolute sure I was getting good coverage while doing the brush coat.

Total I used 2 quarts... The brush coat took just under a quart. The sprayed coat could have taken less, but I just went ahead and used it all up.



I just went at it in sections.. DAB DAB BRUSH BRUSH STIR STIR REPEAT!

I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. I've used Herculiner on a couple Jeep tubs before and knew it was a good product. The texture came out great in the spray coat using the Harbor Freight texture gun, the smallest nozzle, no thinning, and the compressor on 35psi... I let 2 hours elapse in between coats.

I still have to spray the UV protection.. I'll post another pic after that... Got bored waiting, so here I am. Have to let it all dry a few hours before I can do that.

Wow man that came out really nice, that wont be rusting again for a long long time.
A suggestion if I may, I noticed you are using a UV topcoat, since it will never see any sun you might want to use a less expensive product on that part, and save the UV topcoat for another application.

Cab turned out great! awesome job replacing the whole corner of the cab. If you don't mind how exactly did you get the cab up on its back? I have a few ideas in my head but getting a few other opinions on methods before I do it.
