Thanks guys I have a confession to make. I've went back and forth, round and round with what I wanted for the final look on this truck. I purchased enamels, single stage, two stage, hell I probably got 700 bucks worth of paint. I decided after alot of testing and playing with paint that I would do something similar to the painting that was chizzler and others on here have done and layer on single stage enamels only something changed along the way. When I got the whole truck white and started to see it shine my vision changed again! So long story short, ol boog has a roll on paint job. There I feel better after admitting it and proud of the results so far

The top half of this panel has been wet sanded 3000 grit and buffed with megs 105 no polish yet. Bottom of the panel is untouched so you can see the difference:

Sorry for the bad quality but it was dark and my phones camera gets testy in dim light. Heres another pic after I got the whole drivers side sanded with 3000 and buffed with megs 105 no polish yet:

Another crappy pic of the passenger bed:

Purchased a Porter Cable 7424XP to do the buffing and polishing. Doesnt cut as fast as a rotary but great for beginners. I spent about 5 hours last night buffing 2'x2' areas and its coming out pretty darn nice. With the exception of not being able to move my arms this morning Im happy.

Yep...A roller Rollers were 4" Shur-Line foam you can buy at Walmart. Was gonna spray it but after judging the results by doing it both ways it looked identical and I was originally planning on a patina look anyway so i figured I'd be sanding through layers anyway....but things evolve

Rolling was definitely alot more tedious but virtually no mess since there is no overspray.

The process is pretty well documented on the internet BUT I had to try it on some test panels and tweaked what I had read and came up with my own process to achieve the results I was looking. I'd be happy to share my process with anyone thats interested.

Funny side note...My dad thought I was NUTS, my neighbors stood and stared in disbelief as I rolled..But last night when things started to take shape they were amazed at the results after a little buffing and that my friend made me feel pretty damned good

Hey, great job man.

I can see it now on Over Haulin'

By any chance do you have an idea as to how thick the paint is? Have you had any issues of cutting through the paint when you wet sand?

Honestly I don't know the thickness and yes due to my newbie bodywork skills I cut through in a few spots with sandpaper and a couple more appeared during buffing. Future note to self...STAY AWAY FROM THE EDGES! Good news is I got out the foam brush, dabbed on some paint, let it dry and buffed it out..GONE!

Thanks guys. It turned out pretty damned sweet. Much better than I expected but not as perfect as I wanted but I am working on that. Im having a problem with it not wanting to polish up on one side of the bed while the other side and rest of the truck is smooth as glass. Not sure if I didnt get all the lower grit sanding marks out or if for some reason the paint has not dried? Seems like the buffing compound is gumming up just on the one quarter and when I polished it its just kind of hazy under certain light. Looks great except at very certain angles and light but I'd still like to make it shine like the rest of the truck.

Re: Project "Booger"

Ok time for the weekend round up! When I left off last week I was still in the process of buffing out the truck with Megs 105 and polishing with Megs 205. Well after many hours using the PC 7424 80% of the truck looks like this shot of the hood:

Heres some more pics after buffing/polishing:

As you can see in the last few photos the inside of the bed is still sanded. My original plan was to have a spray in bedliner done but I decided it deserved the roll on treatment too and I'll toss in a bed mat. I did two coats of primer, 3 coats of color thinned 25% on the bed with no sanding between coats. Looked plenty good to me for the bed of a truck as it was when I was finished. Note I was able to do 5 coats total of primer and paint in one day because it was mid 90's (hot as hell in my garage) and almost no humidity. Heres a semi decent pic while it was drying:

Finally the big news of the weekend was I paid a visit to board member T Korinek in Mesa this weekend and picked up a whole slew of goodies at a great price. Got my front bumper, Rear Bumper, Steering Wheel, Mirriors, Door Handles, rubber/felts, and a whole slew of other stuff. Went with a budget, left exceeding it by 300 bucks. Not too bad considering he has every part known to man for these trucks (except my grill but that wasnt his fault) at great prices! I would highly recommend a trip to see him for anyone looking for parts at great prices. Grill should be in this week!

Cleaned up the tailgate and got it painted. Also removed all the hardware and cleaned the overspray from previous paint jobs off of it. Only thing I need to finish it up is the little clips that hold the rods to the handle? Can't seem to find where to get those.

I'll leave you with pics of goodies slowly making their way back on the truck:

Should get the rear bumper on this week and hopefully have a grill then I can goto work on the interior.
