Re: 1949-50 3100

We are working on the engine placement and I have some mounts on the way. This is a GM Connect & Cruise 5.3 package. It includes the motor, torque converter, 4L65E trans, the trans control harness, the engine control harness along with the pedal. Hardware for bolting it together, instructions, and some other items. It does not have the alternator, PS pump, or starter.

Re: 1949-50 3100

Another week of waiting on parts but I did manage to get the Camaro tank in. I need to get an elbow and cap but its mounted and fits nicely. I moved and flipped the rear crossmember so I can have a rear fill that fits below the bed.

Tank is an 18 gallon 67-68 Camaro from Tanks inc. It has the EFI tray in it with a GPA-2 Walbro pump. I used the stock type straps. When the bumper is on your not going to see much of the tank at all.

Dirty Dingo sure makes this swap easy with adjustable slider engine mounts, and they have some nice A/C brackets/Alt brackets if you have not seen them !

Dave do you know if a GPA-2 is comparable with a 97 to 200 Chevy in tank FI fuel pump?

Its capable of 190 Liters Per Hour, 40 - 100 psi, good up to 450 hp. I don't remember the spec requirement on the LC9 5.3 we're using , I think 145 gph and 58 psi, but the GPA-2 was above that. Its a good pump for stock to mild 5.3 and 6.0's up to 450hp. Its not a TBI pump.

I looked at those but because i'm using the Danforth cross member the vette stands and mount look to be a perfect fit. I just need to fab up a small perch on the frame rail.

I just looked up the requirements for the 5.3 LC9 and its only 40 gph @ 60 PSI so the GPA-2 pump is more than enough

Re: 1949-50 3100

We have a little more progress. Finally got some engine mounts and exhaust manifolds. These manifolds are from a CTS 6.0L 2004 - 2007. Trailblazer SS was an almost but hit the frame and the engine would have been up way to high. It would have required a 7 degree tilt front to back to get past the frame and have the drive shaft still line up correctly. With the CTS manifolds we are at 4 degrees and were able to set the motor lower into the rails. We also got the radiator fan side brackets made up for the Mark VIII Fan.

I used CTS manifolds, Vette motor mounts, and fabed the fan mount and rear trans mount.

next is setting the cab on and recessing the firewall.

Re: 1949-50 3100

Well "it ain't over til its over" is the theme of the exhaust system. I got a right side CTS manifold in today and put int on and it dumps out smack in the middle or the frame rail so I ended up using one right side TrailBlazer SS and one left side CTS. Oddly enough they are about equal length and far better than using both of either manifold. The left TBSS manifold was about 4.5 inches longer than the right TBSS. Vette manifolds I thought sure would work dumped into the engine mounts and I wasn't redoing those.

So in the end its one left CTS and one right TBSS and they tuck in nicely.

Re: 1949-50 3100

Your post with pictures of the manifolds is something I have been looking at as well. I am planning the same connect and cruise package from Pace Performance. Also in a 53 AD five window.

You commented on the corvette manifolds and thought they would fit, except for your style of engine mounts. Is that right? I will probably try that route.

I've been following this build and really like everything.

I really appreciate the work that goes into the build as well as the work to post it all. Thanks

The mounts , Picture C & E, are Corvette and are swapped left to right because they fit the frame rails better that way, it gives me the setback I wanted to clear the MarkVIII Fan and the crank angle @4 degrees and keeps the engine from being to high up above the rails. If I used them in the correct location the vette manifolds would work. They are off the same year as the mounts. If I reverse them then I would have issues with the crossmember Lower A frame weldment , Picture E.
Picture B shows the three manifolds I tried. Corvette, CTS and TBSS. The stock truck ones were not even close on either side. Picture D is where the TBSS manifold dumps,A is where the CTS manifold dumps.

Most likely with a MII front end the mount issue would not be there and I could use them in the correct location and use the vette manifolds.

I was told that camaro manifold do not work either but possibly GTO may.I spent way to much on manifolds to find out.

Looking good! Where did you get those blue brackets for lifting the engine?

I just finished up my exhaust on my s10 framed AD and used the passenger side manifold off a 2003 Suburban and driver's side manifold off a 2002 Camaro. Use what will work best for you!
