Re: I am from the Desert

good eye Shifty ...the belts come in one inch increments as far as I can find out this way and that does not give me enough room going the other way with the alternator on a aftermarket bracket cause of the headers and original 327 heads have no provisions for bolting up a bracket to the head! originally the bracket bolted to the exhaust manifold I have clocked the alternator also ...long winded answer but I have run out of options ...there is just a tad left to pull the belts tighter ...no need to at this point ....thanks for looking as always open for advice

Re: I am from the Desert

I had that same issue on my 55 Belair that had a nice set of fuelie heads....I ended up with two of those brackets, one on either side of the alternator ear.

What belt number are you currently running?

Re: I am from the Desert

Much to my dismay, I haven't had the Belair since the late 80's...

Seems to me that you could use 15545's for a 1/2 shorter, or 15540 for a full inch. It's kind of old skool, but you can ask for a matched set, and hopefully you are dealing with an older counterman.

Re: I am from the Desert

Well, I am an old counterman (since 1983), so I get it.

I truly miss that ol' 55, wasn't the fastest, wasn't the best stopping or handling, didn't get great mileage, etc...but it was by far the best car I've ever owned.

Re: I am from the Desert

finally .....so never a short story paint shop didn't make enough paint to complete the entire truck ( gave them a entire disassembled truck) so when they made the new batch didn't match come to find out PPG discontinued a tint that was being used in the formula( body shop offered to paint the entire truck again I said no because of my time invested in reassembly etc. they agreed and turned up the heat on PPG, PPG rep came out got it 97% close only good in horse shoes and POLITICS ):body shop kept the pressure on PPG and then they ask us to send them a correct color part(step from stepside) to their Lab in Pittsburg so they could create a formula and do a spray out .........we have a match ....its tuff with pictures and this color looks more blue gray than blue in some light and a lot blue in the sun light .....so after weeks of the back and forth ....we have a match so back to assembly ..first get the bed wood prepped ....stay tuned
