I am trying to get as much done as possible because I coach High School football. Once practice starts I wont have much time to work on it.

I did call Tuff Country about my shocks, they gave me the lengths compressed and extended. What a big gap between 0" and the 3" rear shock lengths.

Shock --------------Lift-------------Compressed-----------Extended
TC 61301 (rear)....4-6"...................17".......................29.5"
TC 61261...."........3"......................16"......................26.5"
TC 69105...."........0"......................13.5"...................22.5"
TC 61231 (front)....4-6"...................13.5"..................2.5"

My truck is currently about 19.5" eye to eye. I have not measured it hanging from the frame. I will try to do it, but I want to try and get the motor/trans in tonight.

Can someone measure there frame? ground to top of front frame rail and ground to top of rear frame rail without the engine and body on it? I am just wondering the height difference.

Wanted to say hello. I'm about to start tearing down my 72 4x4 LWB. This is going to be my first time and I appreciate what your posting. I haven't looked to see where in California you are but I am just above Sacramento. I look forward to watching your progress. Nathan

Hey Nathan welcome to the site. This site is the best. Thanks forget he kind words. You will find so many before me that have done them to study. If you can? start a build thread and post pictures everyone loves pictures.

I am south or you on Interstate 5 about 100 miles south of Sacramento.

The mechanical and welding or fabricating part is easy for me the body work and paint not so much.

Your 1/2 ton wont be the same as my 3/4 ton with 1 ton running gear. I only noticed about 1/2" lower with the engine, trans and T-case installed. I have 6" lift on my truck with some junk wheels on it to keep it lower to the ground while I work on it. I have 36" tires to put on once the cab is back on. I'm at work now I can measure Wednesday for you.

I was curious of the front to back height measurement... I am looking for the differential front to back. If the front is higher or lower than the rear etc. The 1/2" of drop after the motor was installed is great. I am hoping to try and get my motor in tonight.

Also I think I am going to wait on the shocks till the truck is almost completed before I exchange them. I am pretty sure that I will exchange them for 61261. if the rear settles 1' I will be in the middle of the stroke.

David have you measured the wheel base after installing the ORD flip kit? after looking at my bump stop brackets I would say that my rear axle is forward too much. I am going to measure tonight!

Well started to get the the engine in. Wow. Everyone makes it look easy. I can't seem to be positive it is aligned correctly.... Does the engine and trans sit centered of the frame rails?or does it site to the drive side a little to account for the transfer case? I got it to about 1/4" in 24". What is the tilt from the engine to the trans? I just want to make sure before I drill the pedestal's. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.
Oh and I have about 13" from center of core support mounts to the front edge of the crank pulley. How does that sound?

I bought new stock springs for 1971 3/4" truck with the flip kit.

I'll bet when your axle moves up, it will line up. You haven't messed with the perch pin placement. Measure in a straight line

Glad you asked. You gave me a measurement of 18-1/8" from front of engine. You said " engine block under water pump " under the water pump are a few different areas so I am not quite sure if I am right. I have to be close but before I drill the mounts I need to know for sure. Hey I wonder. If I could measure my sons c10 to the radiator support should be the same right???

I will try it. The reason I even looked at it was becuase my shocks were to long and was wondering if it was the rear end closer to the shock mount.

Should be the same. On my engine below the water pump is a flat spot front of block that I measured from.
I checked my frame height off the floor and 33-5/8" from top of frame to ground front and back. The tires are 29-1/2" tall. 6" lift front springs. stock springs with shackle flip kit.

The frame height from ground to top of Frame is 33" front and 35-1/2" rear. But doesn't look like it has a rake
On 33" tires.
