Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Managed to get something done this weekend. Fixed rust places in the cab with patch panels. I put a little seam sealer in some areas of the floor. I had some Por-15 left over from something I did, so I just put it on the entire floor. Also, installed the factory sound deadening stuff and installed my rubber floor mat. It is nice to finally see some progress after putting in the hours. Thank God it is not a show truck and I have to do everything to factory specs!!!

Which floor mat is that? Did you have to trim it?

Pulled the motor, trans and almost have the crossmember out to replace the crossmember, add power steering & power brakes.
Also looks like I will need to replace the flywheel

That floor mat came from USA1 Industries down in North Carolina. You don't have to do anything to it at all except punch out the holes for where it fits in the cab.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I’m not reusing these sash pieces, but they are getting restored and should be serviceable in the future. I keep every part I pull off that I either upgrade or replace.

Put the leafs and overload leaf back in the 72. Now she sits up in the rear and rides much harsher but I'm putting the hitch on tomorrow so it needed to be done

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Installed the 679 Hayden rapid cool trans cooler pretty easy on this didn’t need to take anything of other than loosen the shroud I may make a couple of brackets so it not in the rad so to speak. Also mocked up where I may put the gauges . They look good in the console but I loose the cubby hole . The oil pressure guage will be replaced with a trans fluid temp gauge

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

When I bought my truck a year ago, it came with a single newer key that fit the ignition but not the door locks. I have since replaced the door locks and ignition with a set from LockDoc. Today I was chasing down a rattle in my hood, and I found a Hide-A-Key magnetic box inside it, next to the striker plate. It had a key inside it, and it works with the original door locks! I don't think this is the original key based on it having a locksmith name stamped in it (WAGNER), but I still thought it was a cool find.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Got a solid start on finishing my bed wood. These six pieces have the bottoms and edges done in black sealer and three coats of gunstock color stain. Will do the clear coat when I get the edge pieces ready.

...today I caught mine on fire... a bit of a belch from the carb..... it's ok.... I put it out quick, just a burned up air filter and a crunchy hose.... already replaced and running in less than 30 minutes

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Radiator overflow bottle/bracket/hoses installed!

I used an old windshield washer bottle so it would look like it belonged there (the yellowing old look) instead of having a brand new white bottle. I also found a black "Engine coolant only" cap to match the windshield washer bottle cap.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Plumbed in the manifold for the transmission temp sender no leaks just need to drill some holes for the mounting screws I have good continuity checked it because I had to use a little Teflon tape . Left half the fitting bare to help make a good contact . Tomorrow I’ll mount the gauges and wire it up .

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Finally, after waiting several weeks for parts, I was able to finish rebuilding my doors. All new internals, plus new vent windows and door glass. Last hurdle was the setting tape, that was way too thin. I ended up putting that tape against the glass, and backed it with tool box liner - worked like a champ. Under the door panels I added sections of Fat Mat to reduce vibrations. What a difference! Much quieter, and no more rattle. Nice, clear glass is also a welcome upgrade.
