Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I agree with what mechanixman and dodger are saying, now let's not hijack this thread from what it was meant for, working a truck that you actually possess.

OK, what about after you get the truck? If you spend all your money for the truck, what will you have to fix the truck with? Is your plan to get it in your driveway and just look at it? If you can't make a deal on this one, keep saving so you're ready for the next. The right truck, when it arrives, will come together. I'm not saying you shouldn't work hard for this truck, but if the deal falls through, it's not the end of the world. We've all been there. We've all had the one fall through our grasp, only to have a better deal come along later. You have to consider what is most important: spending all your free time and cash working on a project, playing video games, keeping family relations good, etc.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

If the truck means so much to you mate, sell whatever you can to get the extra $400 before putting family in the bad position where they feel guilty if they don't loan you the money.

In saying that I've never been in a position where I can ask because my family have never had money so I've learnt that if I really want or need something, I do whatever it takes even of it means selling some other treasured item. It really makes you assess what is important.

Sell your other truck, a computer, an XBox/Playstation thingymigig, or whatever you may have - if the truck means that much. You will always find excuses or reasons why you don't want to sell such things but those excuses will just tell you exactly what is most important to you.

If your Grandmother and other family members know how much you want it and also know you are short some money, they would have offered by now if they were able to loan the money I would have thought, so maybe they are not on a position to loan.

I wouldn't ask family because I don't want them to feel obliged but that's just my answer and opinion based on your question.

I'm 17, I don't have a PS3, and I have a truck.
Sell the PS3. You'll find it just wastes your time anyway.

Nick is right. But what do I know I haven't owned a television for 15 years. With the trucks ,Bonsai and photography I don't miss it.

Maybe you should throw the PS3 in to sweeten the pot!

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

As I said, comes down to what is most important to you and it's clear you need a PS3 more than the truck at this stage which is fine. At least it isn't end of the world of you miss out on this truck as long as you have video games.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Well nothing yet, But I am going to going to do some more on my motor mounts and devise a way to pull a transmission in a spot that a transmission jack won't work. It's an automatic so it won't be that tough once I get started. That is the tough part.

Mostly he's asking but not taking the advice...especially when he doesn't like what he hears/reads.

Back to ME! Lol.

Picked up a set of 3 point retractable seats belts for (get this) $9 apiece!! Pretty happy with the deal. Bought via a CL ad from a shop that strips Ram 12 passenger commuter vans and exports them to Japan. He's got as-new $99 bench seats too!

So much for being "crushed" if he doesn't get this family heirloom!

And younger people wonder why olders treat them like they're flaky.

Took the old 80s looking door trim off, sanded, painted and added new door cards.

Just need to throw some speakers into the ugly holes that a PO cut.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Lets not let him. He's gone to VW's, so be it. Ignore more questions, I am.

NOW, BACK TO OUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED PROGRAM:
Stopped off at Home Cheapo and bought a bag of grade 8 nuts, bolts, washers to install my uber-cheap, life saving seat belts (that's a joke!). Probably goin to need some flat stock, 1/8" or 3/16" as plate washers below floor and in the door pillar. Advice from anyone whose done it appreciated.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

You need a plate on the lower mounts that go through the floor but there shouldn't be a need to add anything else to the pillar. You could always use a thicker fender washer under your floor to spread out the load instead of cutting and drilling a hole in some plate. That's what I've done in the past

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Thanks Dubie. I want to default to safety so I'm thinking of a 2x2 piece of plate under the floor. I mentioned a plate for the pillar because Juliano's (I think) has a How-To on their site that describes using a spot welded in plate up there. It'd be a LOT easier if I could use say two big fender washers instead. I HOPE that would be safe enough.
