Re: Kabwe's aka Bam's build
Thanks guys, your compliments are greatly appreciated.
On a side note I just redid my brake and fuel lines (currently doing fuel lines) with Nicopp tubing. I have to tell you I love that stuff. For anyone that needs to do their brake lines are run a hard lines for fuel, trans, etc. consider using it. Its very easy to work with. Last edited by BAM55; 11-09-2017 at 02:39 PM. |

Re: Kabwe's aka Bam's build
Well the guys that know me know that I just can’t leave well enough alone. I had to go out and by the new fleetside bedsides.lol
First order of business was to smooth the seams and stake pockets. Here is a pic of the fleetside bed mocked up. I also installed the hidden tailgate latches I had from the step side. This now how I’m raising the bed floor. Last edited by BAM55; 01-24-2018 at 03:02 PM. |

Re: Kabwe's aka Bam's build
is the raised square tubing welded at all to the bedside?

Re: Kabwe's aka Bam's build
Nope, the square tubing is bolted to the frame, there are six legs on that square tubing frame in the exact same location where the cross sills would be. The angle strips are raised 3 inches on the bedsides and they bolt to square tubing. So when all is done the bolt will go through the angle strip, wood, and square tubing. The piece of wood in the front of the bed represents the thickness of the bed wood to insure that the bedside lines up with the body line on the cab when its installed.

Re: Kabwe's aka Bam's build
Yeah I do also. My plan was to look for a Cameo or fleetside bed when I first got the truck. Cameo of course was my first choice but I did not like any of the after market beds for the Cameo. Even if you find a Cameo bed the trim, and tailights assembly is more expensive than the bed itself. My second choice was the fleetside beds . I looked for a fleetside box for years and gave up because so many were in awful condition. Turns out I lucked up taking so long to build this thing because now they are available.lol

Re: Kabwe's aka Bam's build
Great choice going with a Fleetside
I’m glad I’ve got a rock solid longbed, but how is the quality of those bedsides? I have read different opinions on the web... They look good tho!

Re: Kabwe's aka Bam's build
No real complaints about the quality I had to an elongated couple of the holes for the front panel and rear sill but that could be because I purchased those from other companies. Other than that seems to be about 16 gauge steel decent quality

Re: Kabwe's aka Bam's build
thats looking pretty sweet Bam. nice to see you back at it. whaddya gonna do with the old box, put another truck under it, build a couch or bbq for the back deck, haha
just curious if it is the angle of the pic but it kinda looks like you may have interference issues with the diff when it goes to bottom out. I am sure it is the pic though, your stuff is always engineered for worst case scenario. looking awesome, thanks for posting some pics, maybe get me motivated. |

I do have to widen the tubs due to my narrow rearend other than that all is well. I was really worried that the bedsides would hit the tires but I have a nice clearance. I got too happy and went to fit the tubs and no way. I widened them 2 inches I'm just finishing up the welding and metal finish. The old bed went to my buddy Donnie (57 with jag front and rear build posted here). I also gave him the rear fenders and steps. I have to get rid of some stuff and make room and keep the wife happy.
