Are the plates heavily pitted? I just bought some aluminun stock to build the plates, but if yours are in good shape, ill take them. Thanks for thinking of me

There still kinda muddy, but I see no pitting at all. Send me a pm with your addy if you want them and I will get them out in next few days.

:Edit: Relooked. It is just starting to get to the points of pitting. But they are still very solid pieces.

Had my nephew make a plug for the fuel regulater, was told or read that you dont need to, (gotta be true, if it was on the internet, bonjour)lol, but i thought it would be better to have the return fuel go directly into the basket, as opposed to just shooting all over and some of it going in the basket

Got the 1/4" 6061 aluminum plate from McMaster-Carr, for the retaining plate at the fuel pump

Actually it is preferable to have the return as far away from the pump as possible so as to not aeriate the fuel, and to give the warm return fuel time to cool down.

I agree with you 100%, but wouldnt the engineers at GM have already addressed these issues, seeing this is an oem fuel pump...i cant see any way to move the return line farther away.

Now that you mention it, i will look into the actual function of the pump, as far as where the pick up of fuel is....seems to have a filter sock on the bottom of the basket, so that must be where the fuel is introduced. Then, somehow, it must take it out of the basket, dunno

If it dumps into the basket, before being used to supply fuel to the injecters, it should have time to deaerate, and cool down, but i dont know at what time the fuel is being used from the basket

Ill check it out, and give you an answer

All that being said, i checked out having a tank being made at a cost between 600 and 900, i opted for a new tank and pump in the range of 300, trying to keep the cost down somewhat

usually im the one sending out free parts, now i have to pay it forward. Gives me something to work on saturday, while i figure out where to buy a 3 1/2" hole saw for the fuel pump retaining ring

A liilte soap and water then a coat of rust converter, and paint. These tank spacers should be good as new

Had time to work on the retaining ring. Screwed the plate to some wood, so wouldnt cut into my drillpress base. Used a 3 1/2" holesaw

Hammer and chisel to start hole, then tin snips. After neck was off tank, blow torch and 7/16" wrench. Hold neck horizonal and let gravity help by flowing old solder away. Repop tank has smaller locating/mounting bolts, so well see how that works out

Ordered my injectors from fast today, 36 lb@58 psi=331.00. Still working on my order for fuel line 3/8" wall thickness. 035, 90/10 copper nickel

Went to offer up fuel tank and ran into a problem, if i put into stock location, interferance with second to last cross sill, could fix it by sectioning in a piece of flat stock in the middle for about a foot and a half....alot of work!

Second option, body lift of about 1 1/2", alot of work and money!

Third option, relocate tank forward about 1 1/2", required to drill 6 holes, and maybe buy a new fuel filler hose. I think i will opt for 3, but everytime i think of drilling large holes, tom vogel comes to mind with a broken wrist. So, when i use my 3/4" chuck drill ill use the handle adapter and hope i can control the torque...if not the build will halt for awhile, and i will utter several curse words. Man that has got to be painful!

Cant think of any options short of renting a magnetic base drill

Recieved the fuel pump connecter from vette works out in washington state. Only need two leads 12v, and ground, other two will be deleted, they are for the sending unit, and i am using the oem sending unit that came with the tank
Gotta take the connecter apart, and check what pins they use, i want to get rid of any splices

Hey Jim a lot of nice machine work just on that ring alone...if I may ask the dumb question whats the problem with the tank install? fuel supply and return lines, ..Also this is going to be a pressure system will an original filler neck seal enough.? Ed.

Thanks for the comps., probably my fav. part of the build is working with aluminum. It was done with a bandsaw and drill press

The whole problem with the install is that the pump can only mount in one flat spot on the tank, so all changes have to be made to accomadate that location. The actual lines seem to be the easy part, i can rotate the pump just about 360 degrees, just not aimed at the cross sills

The pump shouldnt build pressure in the tank, as it has a vent system right between the supply and return line fittings. So, there shouldnt be any pressure at the fill cap.

Hope i answered your question. I dont believe there are any dumb questions on this board, if you dont know the answer, then you have to ask the question.....

I am sure You will come up with a good compromise, I put a poly tank in 15 yrs ago, it was loose side to side and I didn't like the way it fit. I added a 1/4" angle 3 x 3 x 8 on both sides and 1/4 rubber mat to cushion it. This moves the tank down 1/2" and gives a little clearance. Short stubby fuel fill on tank got a longer hose. Might be another option to consider.

, thanks for the info. I believe that is the purpose of the parts Dale gave me, keeps the tank from shifting side to side. Also ordered the rubber pad matrl. from mcmaster-carr. I mght use the thickness of the rubber pad as a way to drop the tank lower....well see, depending on where the fill tube ends up

I think the proper way to tackle this problem is going to be modiying the the second to last cross sill, so, i hope one of our arizona boys have a bed they want to chop up. Doesnt seem that the sill is in repop, i think it is blazer/jimmy specific

Still working on the fuel injectors, seems they are more costly then originally planned. Sent the original injectors back to fast

Not sure of these quick connects, reading some bad things

Make sure if you are drilling the holes for nutserts you use the knurled type. If you use the smooth type on anything other than a punched hole they will eventually slip and make it so you cant get the bolt back out. Ask me how I know LOL. McMaster has both kinds.

Thanks for the heads up Richard, nice to have guys covering your back. Didnt know that, will have to check out mcmaster-carr. I did know that they are to be used on a specific sheet metal thichness

Just ordered my 90/10 fuel line, and 1/4" brake line
