Yes but the satisfaction of doing it yourself is irreplaceable. I'll be great.

Looking great!
The only trouble with hanging parts is that they swing around some while you shoot. If you kind of splay the wire, string, whatever you use it'll help. Once you've got them hung, use a few air blasts to see how it goes.

Thanks for the tip, I'll probably use wire to hang them. Hopefully I can get it to work out for me.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Well after a couple of spray sessions in the garage and dealing with the overspray and the fumes I decided to move to plan B and figure out a better place to spray my panels. So I bought a 10x17 enclosed garage tent from Harbor Freight for $160.00 with a 20% coupon and set it up in the backyard today. Now I have a place to spray without having to worry about covering everything in the garage because of overspray or the fumes getting into the house. My garage is attached to my house and enters into the kitchen. Now I can hang my panels and spray them as if they were on the truck. Still need to figure out what to do with the floor, will probably line it with plastic for now.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Keith,i have the same pop up garage and it has survived 2 years now.Just dont leave snow on the roof !
Great idea to spray in there.Plenty of room and no overspray in the garage. I just throw a tarp down on the ground when i paint in mine. Panels are looking good.Your a painter and didnt even know it !

Like the tent Keith! Be careful, buddy of mine did the same thing, neighbors thought he was "cooking meth". They called the cops on him........

That's crazy, I didn't even think of that. I don't know how the neighbors will react when I tell them I'm painting in it either

Looking good Keith. How does it feel getting some color on, even if it's the same color as the fenders were originally.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Thanks Mike, it does feel good to spray some color on the fenders even though like you said it is the same color as the ecoat. That will change soon when I spray some slick sand on them. I spread some mud on them yesterday and I have to block them out today. Then spray some more epoxy over any bare metal. Then I will be ready for some slick sand and more blocking, yay

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
I then decided that I wanted to spray a test piece and see how it would come out with the Torch Red and clear. Yesterday I sprayed some white epoxy over the bare metal. It laid down really smooth so only needed very light sanding today before shooting the base.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
BAM we have Torch Red I'm pretty proud of myself for never doing this before. This is 3 coats of base and 3 coats of SPI Universal Clear. All I have to say is Torch Red is extremely bright in the sun, I definitely made the right choice.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB
Put a fan in there blowing out the garage/tent. Get a cheap $5 filter and put it in front of the fan. It will suck out a lot of the fumes. I have done this a couple times. Works great. I'm build a short wall about 2' tall that my garage door will will roll down to it. In the wall in putting 3 fans. Sucking the fumes out. Should make for a decent spray booth.
