Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

After work today, I wrapped the wiring harness feeding the rear in a split loom with the lights wires exiting the rear driver's side frame rail and the Fuel Pump and sending unit wire exiting the loom a bit earlier in the run...

Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

I also mounted the fuel pump and pulled the rotors so I can turn them at work tomorrow...
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

After some online research, I determined this tank is a LMC offering... Seems it's a 21 gallon side fill version. It was with the truck when purchased and unfortunately, no sender or paperwork can be found...
Lastly, I called LMC attempting to figure out what function the fuel tank ports serve... Wasted that phone call as LMC offers ZERO tech support...

This is a photo of the driver's side of the tank... I believe the center port, just to the left of the fill tube is the vent, and the one to the left of that I am unsure of...
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

This is a photo of the right side , the small port on the side has me confused... it is directly opposite of the smaller fitting on the Driver's side... Looking through the sender hole I cannot see any tube that would draw from the bottom...
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

I will be ordering the sender soon and the pic on the website isn't very helpful, but it looks like there is a pickup tube with a screen attached... so any help is appreciated as to the function of these ports...

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

Hey Don, you're moving right along.

The big port next to the fill is a fill vent that runs up to the fill spout, one of the smaller ports might be a vent port to a canister and the other small port might be a return port. I've not seen your fuel sending unit but some times they have the fuel pick up tube and filter/screen/sock attached.
If you're using an in tank fuel pump and sending unit the vent and return may be built into that unit.

Good luck on sorting it all out, I know you can do it.
Take care.

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

Thanx Guyz!!!

Another few items either finished or nearing completion...

This weekend found me focusing on Brakes... It's good to be able to stop...

I started off by getting the Front brakes finished up first, earlier in the week I turned the rotors and then after re-installing them I modified (Bent) the hoses. They had a 90 degree bend which had them pointing directly into the Upper Ball joint thanks to the 2 1/2" Drop Spindles... Some Vise grips and an arm work out have them now mounted and bolted in place...
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

New pads installed...
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Yesterday, after getting the second caliper bolted in place, a typical afternoon thunderstorm kicked up stopping the rear brake work... The rears had to be done with the truck in the Sunshine...
Today my focus was getting the rear brakes complete and ready to bleed the system...
Here's the second rebuilt Drum set up just before re-installing Drum and Tire...
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

So, after a trip into town for some parts I neglected to purchase, fuel line, and a hose to connect the Booster... JoJo and I spotted a hawk with a fresh kill along the road...
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Just after I snapped that pic, JoJo decided to bark... and the hawk flew into the trees...
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Booster hose in place...
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Truck getting some rays...
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

A while back, a year or more, MarkeB01 offered some parts for the asking...
He listed the items up for grabs and after all was said and done he hooked me up with a few items, including a fuel pressure regulator gauge as well as an isolator... Here's the gauge in it's temporary home under the dash...
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

I still need to grab some fittings to finish the install... Thanks Again Mark!!!

Brakes are ready to be bled, so is the clutch hydraulic system... Closer and Closer...

Ordering my Fuel Sending unit soon, still need to get another alternator too...

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

We have sun shine and cool weather, the coolest in a long time for August.

My wife and went for a walk and then for a swim this after noon. The water is very cool and the water level is very high in the lake for this time of year.
No complaints from me.

Always good to hear you are getting in some truck time.

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

Forty plus days of 90s. Stupid humidity and rain almost every afternoon. Must be one of the hottest summers I can recall. It's supposed to cool down to the 80s the first part of the week and back to the 90s.

II feel ya, we had major humidity and temps running near 100, with feels like temps hovering between 110-115, for about that past month. Lots of the afternoon thunder showers thanks to the humidity levels... This cool front outta Canada has the air dry and cool, was 63 this morning...

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

Hey Guyz...

Yesterday and part of today has been spent working on the Gas door modification... I also ordered my Fuel sender from LMC, so soon, very soon, I should be able to hop in twist the key and move this beast under it's own power...

I started off cutting the Fuel door from the Squarebody bed I acquired...Sorry Squarebody guys!!!
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

I then began the process of cleaning, repairing and installing on the Stepper's L/Stepside Fender... Here's a shot after removing the hoses and starting the cleaning process...
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Found some rust that needed to be repaired...
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Let the games begin...
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Patch welded in, Parts painted that could be before welding in..., and new Locking Gas Cap...
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Here's a closer shot of repaired area...
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Next step... Mark and cut Fender...
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Forgot to get pic of hole cut in fender...
...but, here's the Welding getting started...
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Still gotta grind and get back in primer, door is just set in to see what it's gonna look like...
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

I know, it's opening to the rear, but on the donor, it was on the Passenger side and my tank fills on the Driver's side, so...

Spotted this one Saturday while working, shot this pic earlier today on a run into town... I think I've talked with this guy before, not sure though...
Untitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Will post more after grinding and body work finished...

Laterz...

More truck time today...

Purchased the filler hose, vent hose, clamps and other assorted goodies this week, installed the Fuel level sender, hooked up hoses and electrics... and with the help of a friend and his 2 boys, we set the bed on... Starting to snowball towards a running driving truck...

On to the pics...
