Thanks Man. I saw that. Nice write-up. Especially appreciated when the project feels stagnated. But I assure you it's pressing on. Just came from there. Door gaps are coming along (finally!!).

Loved seeing that video. Makes me want to go out and get another project! Just wish I had the skills you have to do something like that. Awesome job so far. Can't wait to see it out of paint prison!

Funny! Speaking of door gaps, last night I was out in the shop with my wife and kid looking at the faded paint, door dings, rust bubbles and door gaps on the Amazon. My wife and kid were completely unaware of those things. Saying how good of shape its in. Makes my job easier.

Just read the entire thread, took two days. Well done!
I feel anything else I could have said has been said, so I will leave it at that!

Thanks man! I am working with the bodyshop tuesday and thursday nights to get it done ASAP (they work on it in my absence as well). Bruce the owner says my goal of having it back on the road this summer is a pipe-dream. We shall see...

They may not be conscious of the aesthetic impact of uniform gaps, but they would most likely find a car with proper gaps more appealing than one with what I started with (gaposys majora). But I support blissful ignorance

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...

Since pics are worth more than any words. Here's just a small flavor of what we were dealing with:

Not sure if I ever mentioned this, but the original drivers side doors had previous repairs discovered during the blasting process. I opted to go with the solid set of doors I happened to have available from that brown car that made a brief appearance in this thread.

Welllllll, we found that the blue hinges didn't work with the brown doors, which was the first clue something was off. The brown hinges got us much closer, but still not great. We even tried the original doors, which fit gap-wise much better than the now fully blasted and epoxy primered "brown doors."

Though they appear reddish-brown, that's the factory primer on the original doors.

But the final desicion was to make the better doors fit the car, or more accurately, make the car fit the better doors.

Last pic is of the doors seal. The car had seals on the doors' perimeter. The door opening/aperture had a woven/fabric cover over the pinch weld.

My rubber supplier in Australia (Frank Schoenberger) sent me pics of the profile he specs for these. Turns out the Rootes Group fitted these cars with body mounted seals in some countries, and door mounted seals in others.

What to do...? I'm going to attempt to run both. Hopefully I won't have to slam the doors...

Here's the body pinch weld mounted aperture seal profile:

And here's the door perimeter seal profile:

Good question. I haven't closed on that yet. I'm thinking about possibly going with the bullet mirrors used on Tigers and Cobras. What do you guys think?

Bullet mirrors are clean cut and stylish. Suit the period of the car as well.

Searching for mirrors, I came across these. They are a very clean design and aera correct. They are called Ital mirrors.

Those are cool! Any stateside vendors? Google showed nothing.
That Classic link (1st pic) is UK.
I was going to use generic (no logo) 57 Chevy mirrors on the fenders of the Amazon but not 100% the fender mounted mirrors and high school parking lots will agree with each other?

Yeh, I'm diggin them. They are a bit more subtle and unique than the bullets.

Didn't find any stateside vendors either. Ebay uk has a few vendors with them.

subtle is the key word here they dont look as boy racer as the bullets

i could look for them over here in the netherlands and give you a price including sending it to you in a package , i'm not a company so it might slip under the customs radar if i mark it gift

Thanks for the offer man. Shipping is actually not bad from England.

Good taste there! That's one of my all time favorite cars: Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA (1965). They go by a few different names including GTA, GTV, GT Junior, Giulia, Sprint, 1750, 2000. All in the 105/115 Series Coupés family.

Here's one that caught my eye at a local cruise-in a few years ago.

Another option from the Porsche 356 Speedster:

Can be fender mounted:

or door mounted:

Personally I think fender mounted on the back of the fender where it's still within reach might work out well. In fact I just bought an old crusty one on ebay to check it out/see what might work.

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...

Tex automotive in the UK make nice mirrors out of polished stainless and other cool parts for British cars. I have a set of the bullet racing style mirrors on the Tiger. They are well made and will stay looking good for a long time unlike the chrome ones you can buy that look good for 6 months then the chrome starts flaking.
http://texautomotive.com/classic_exterior_mirrors.html

I have to get some seals from Frank for the S111 Cob I have. How's the quality ?.

Cheers Mal

All the Ital style I've found have a stainless head and chromed base. Frank makes and sells nothing but the highest quality rubber products you will find. Can't say enough good things.
