Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
Love the build! If anyone gives me a paper check, I use my phone to do the deposit as well.

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
PSA: so I called up these guys off of Craigslist who call themselves Mobile Ding Performance & Paint. I'm sure you've all heard of 1 Day Paint & Body, well I thought their ad said 1/2 Day Paint, but it actual said they will get there in half a day, anyway they did a half donkey job, drank all my beer, and left, I went to leave them a bad review on Yelp but they must have taken their webpage down, I knew the rollers were a red flag !

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
Exactly, the man has probably forgotten more about these trucks than I will ever know, and he was kind enuff to educate me on how my truck was optioned out, and something called "Soft-Ray" glass pronounced: "green tint"
"The vent window you disassembled today has Soft-Ray green tinted glass." |

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
Half the fun of working on these trucks is searching for parts. I'm just trying to minimize your fun level. You're welcome

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
I've said it before and I'll say it one more time when it comes to rust removal It Takes Two To Tango, meaning chemicals and abrasives, so I've been using Phosphoric acid from Home Depot for 20 years with great results it used to cost $5 bucks a gallon, they have changed the container about half a dozen times and further deluted the formula in California over the years but it still works, and it's the same sh!et you'll find in 90% of the fancy named brand miracle gimmick removal brands out there that cost 6 times more
yes I also wire wheeled this piece, as I do all my rusty bits, that's the abrasives part FYI there's blue tape underneath that duct tape so it comes off easier but still gets more better protection (cause protection is key, especially these days) Last edited by Gregski; 10-04-2023 at 10:38 PM. |

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
man I used them riv nutz on this plate cause I wanted it to be all nice and such and them riv nut gunz you get on AMAZON are garbage junk, they stip their own threads, so I had to resort to the manual method of using a long bolt and an impact gun
left a little room in the middle for a couple relays and a charging gizmo I bought to allow us to charge at a public station still left the back side of the firewall nice and clean, may hang the pump relays on this side, one for the transmission fluid pump and the other for the water pump, yes both electric |

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
Yup got to be careful with the riv-nut guns. I think it's more the riv-nut not being strong enough, but's it's easy to strip out going full on with the handheld. We have a T handle set up at work that is super easy to use, but you need more room all around to use it.

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
it's getting there, and I don't mean to sound pompous, I have literally been shortening some of these wires a foot at a time, and once I install some sort of EVSE charging solution module thingie I will do one more pass and thin it out some more now that we have the EV Fuse Block / VCU mounted in Siamese Formation
that green thing is a 5 pin relay that turns off my charger when in Drive Mode, it may be going away, again based on what charging solution I end up with |
