Re: Daverods project 66

Yo Dave. random question for you... did you have to change main jets on the Holley 390CFM carb on the 292?? - I think they come with low 50's main jets for primary side.
Hoping you remember back that far and what jets you finally ended up with??
I just picked up a 390 CFM Holley at a swap meet for the new 283 but it has 72s installed in the primary side . I am thinking that may be a bit rich. Just wondering what to start with .
Dang jetting kits are expensive and most do not start with the low numbered jets anyway..

That was many cells ago,but it seems to me that I did rejet it two sizes. You can buy the single jets one ebay.

Re: Daverods project 66

two sizes up or down??? your elevation is a little higher but not enough to be a big deal.. I just wanted an idea where to start before I order a bunch of jets I will probably never need again,
I know the 72s are way too big to start with on the primary side, 64s on the secondary side

Stock primarys are 122-50 .049 secondary 134-39. Holley has a good site that tells how to tune them.

Re: Daverods project 66

I was just thinking about how good looking the Victorys are. I'm thinking I should have a bike by Aug. I was looking at a Roadglide or a streetglide. I like the looks of the streetglide. I'm thinking about just heading south for the winter. Hit the boarder get some new teeth. haha, Went for a bike ride today on my rm 250. First time in 2 years it felt good.

I went on a long test ride on a Cross Country Tour, and I loved it. They say :If you ride it, you will buy it" You have to ride both bikes, and you'll chose the Victory. Not bashing Harley, but the Victory in my opinion is the better one. You can find left over new ones for around 16k to 19k. But used Harley prices are getting pretty low.

This one is the Cross Country Tour

This is the Cross Country

If you get to So Cal, I'll show you around.

Re: Daverods project 66

My 64 keeps killing the battery. I must have a short or something. How should I go about trying to find short? I've charged the batt 3 times. Every time about a week later the batt. is dead. Its just sitting for the week. I wonder if the gas gage would kill it that fast if the ignation switch wasn't turning off?

Check and make sure there isn't a draw on the battery. For a quick check take off the positive battery cable, and connect a test light to the positive cable end and the tip of the test light to the positive post. If it lights up, it could be a draw. Some times a low amp draw will still turn the test light light on but won't drain the battery. Then you will have to check it the same way with an amp gauge. Millie amps won't cause the battery to go dead, but might still lite the test lite. Another test to see if there's a bad battery is to just disconnect it, and see if it still goes dead after a few days. Always start with a fully charged battery though. Sometimes you have to give it a slow charge over a few days to get the battery that seems bad to be fully charged. Good luck.

Re: Daverods project 66

not to bash on harley in general but just about any foreighn bike will be more reliable than a harley with the exeption of the realy new models
harleys are beautiful have a unique sound and a loyal following but after the sun has set the problems show up you have to retighten everything just about every 3 months or so they leak oil just about allways , parts are realy expensive compared to non harley bikes and they never did managed to get the rectifier right
one good thing about harley is that parts for just about every factory model made are still available and you can make a harley any way you want it to be with over the counter parts

Re: Daverods project 66

Victory is an American made company. Harley's do cost more to maintain, but are a much better bike than they used to be. For the money I'll keep my Roadstar for now. It's paid for.

Thanks Chris. I sold it about 6 Months ago. It had 42k on it, and was a great bike. My wife wasn't comfortable on it, so I got a Goldwing, and she loves it. And so do I. After 11 years I was do for something better. Now I have another Roadstar that I got from my friend for FREE. It was totaled and has 150,000 miles on it. But runs perfect. Before he crashed it he put new heads on it thinking it should need it after that many miles. It didn't need it and the cylinder walls looked like new. It already had a lot of stuff on it, but I'm making it look more like an Indian with just bags on it. Here's what they both look like.

No really. I can't buy it for about 6 to 8 weeks. I do really like the looks of it. I still need to go get a bike license. Then I can go for a test drive. If you ride it you will buy it. I'll have to test that out. maybe I'm just chitin ya. I I need to find me one of those.
