I say HELL yea thats the right decision. Enjoy the time with your parents while they are still with you. I lost my father last summer and I would give anything if he could have helped and rode in the truck im building.

So let the flat black fly my friend and enjoy it.

Sounds like a good plan. I think the flat black with trim, wheels and stance is going to look killer!

I lost my dad in '07 at the age of 55 to cancer. I would give anything for him to see my truck and go for a ride in it.

Sounds like you have made a good decision on the truck. Prayers for your family's health and well being.

Sounds to me like you have a great wife to help you get to this decision, she deserves some credit too!

I second this, kudos to your wife for being part of it, and supporting your work and your relationship with your parents. I say get it together and enjoy the irreplaceable time with your family, and then when you are able to paint it, your truck will have gained so much more REAL value - and I don't mean monetary value. We'll still be here thriving off of every update as usual.

Ready for you to be posting up a nice burnout
Thanks Mike, I was really afraid of the same thing happening. I know that if I tried to make the bodywork and paint perfect there is no way I would have the truck done for next spring. It would spiral even further out of control. Some day I hope to have the body and paint as nice as yours, it just will be further into the future then initially thought.

Thanks man, the more I looked at the truck in its current state the easier my decision became. It just makes more sense for me at this point to drive it and get the bugs worked out if it. And your right I might end up just leaving it a satin black for a while.

Thanks, I still have a ton of work to do to get it on the road. I have to redo my exhaust, brake and fuel lines. I need to build the frame to raise my bed floor and modify my wheel tubs, put a wood bed in, then wire it, plumb it, put interior in etc. etc. I also need to smooth out the cab and the couple sections of the hood I had to modify. Even though I'm just going to primer it I still want it to look somewhat straight, I'm just not going to go overboard with it like I had planned.

Thanks Kevin and I'm sorry for your loss. I know it means a lot to them to see it on the road and me enjoying it.

Thanks Ryan, I totally agree with you. It means more to me that my fathers sees it run down the road under its own power then perfect paint at this point.

Thanks Hector, I'm hoping it still looks awesome with the satin paint

Thanks, yeah I am a lucky man to have her. I tend to go a little crazy over this truck and she helps to remind me what is truly important. Besides I think she has a little bit of a motive, she wants her parking spot back in the garage

Thanks, I'm stoked too cause it means I'm now a lot closer to hearing that big block fire up again. Just have to get my exhaust installed so I don't upset the neighbors to much

Thanks I couldn't have asked for a more perfect woman to share my life with. She new what she was signing up for when she married me and took that plunge anyway you are right my truck will gain a ton more value once I get it on the road, it's not doing me any good sitting in the garage collecting dust.

Thanks Tom, I know I have plenty of time to go back and do a nice paint job on it, I don't plan on getting rid of this truck for a very long long time, if ever.

Thanks Jason, you know I have been hinting at this for a while now and after the conversation I had with my wife this past weekend I decided to just bite the billet and forget about the shiny paint for now. I love the way it looks now and it is 3 different colors and both my parents think the truck looks great with the satin black body panels on it now so it will only look better when the cab matches.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Started pulling the truck apart today, took the trim, emblems and bumpers off then pulled the front clip apart. Once I had the fenders off I started remounting the Slosh Tubz so that they mount behind the fender like Kyle did on his project Lucy. I got the drivers side done but still need to do the passenger side. I think it looks much better now. Next weekend I'll get the hood off and maybe the cab. I have to borrow my brothers motor puller to get the cab off.

Have a question for the painters out there. After I spray the epoxy, what do I use to clean the gun with? Remember I'm a noob at this so I need all the help I can get

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Well no progress on the truck, I threw my back out on Saturday and have been laid up ever since. It was really upsetting as I had big plans and a lot of time to work on the truck this weekend and I popped my back around 10am Saturday morning i finally bought a bench for my garage and as I was pulling it out of the truck, I twisted to turn and my back went. It was a humbling experience, I work out almost every day, I'm 6'3" 250 lbs and have never had a problem lifting anything, and my back has always been my strongest body part. Guess it was just a freak thing. I'm starting to feel a little better today so hopefully this weekend I can get back on it.

Thanks Mike, I'm feeling a lot better today so I should be able to get some work done this weekend. The key is to stay out of the gym this week so I don't hurt myself more

I would have had some priming and bodywork done last weekend if I didn't get hurt so hopefully I can get it done this weekend. You did say we, so does that mean your going to be in Jersey this weekend to help
